When bombs fall, the ground for renewal becomes scarce. When negative stereotypes shape social consciousness, freedom of expression is in danger. When containers are used to block protest movements, the dream of freedom and justice is shattered. When our world is plagued by crises and conflicts, humanity is more important than ever. Freedom of art and freedom of expression are components of our pluralistic society – and it is precisely these that State of the ART(ist), a project by Ars Electronica and the Bundesministerium für europäische und internationale Angelegenheiten (MFA Austria), aims to strengthen and make creative voices heard that are suppressed in their home regions. Proof of Exhibition protocol is basically the resume of the future, whereby artists in this case, will have on-chain proof and provenance of exhibitions history. Irrefutable, uncontestable, unalterable. Below, is an example of the Proof of Exhibition Protocol in action with a work from one of our Bhare shows at the gallery. As you can see, there a signature (artist) and a counter-signature (gallery) #proofofexhibition #PigmentToPixel #digitalart #hybridgallery

Even an itinerary that you think you have decided on all by yourself is chosen by chance from a list of possibilities derived from your personal and company budget, schedule and the times. In some cases, what I thought was a temporary move becomes a safe haven. My choice is thus merely a chance encounter among the possibilities that open up before me. Even the places that I ‘must’ go to, their inevitability is based on the accumulation of many coincidences. There is also an accumulation of coincidences, such as something invisible that inevitably brings me here. New dataset of musical versions, built from public metadata on Discogs. We identified 1.9M versions across 348K music works, over 25% of which we mapped to official music uploads on YouTube. 💾 Dataset: https://lnkd.in/edMsPm8D 📄 Paper at #ISMIR2024 (see you there): https://lnkd.in/emx2yFJi
I'll be in San Francisco next week for #ISMIR2024 to present our new musical version identification (VI) dataset, Discogs-VI — the largest dataset of its kind to date! Discogs-VI provides extensive metadata, links to official YouTube uploads, and pre-computed CQT features. The features are available for non-commercial scientific research upon request. The metadata is freely accessible here: https://lnkd.in/d67sZc-p Check out the attached image for a visual comparison that highlights the dataset's scale! Learn more about the dataset here: https://lnkd.in/dEHc5x_4 Huge thanks to the team — Dmitry Bogdanov and Xavier Serra! Looking forward to connecting with the MIR community at the ISMIR poster session! #MIR #ISMIR

Here are the details of the four recordings of the blind test dedicated to Schumann’s Warum op. 12 No. 3. Track 1: Daniel Barenboim. CD Deutsche Gramophone “Encores”, (2022), recorded in 2017. Piano Barenboim, by Chris Maene https://lnkd.in/d7jvSC9B Track 2: Claudio Arrau. CD Decca (originally released in LP by Philips), recorded in 1973. Piano Steinway. https://lnkd.in/d4R_KGjd Track 3: Francesca Antonucci, student concert at Conservatorio Rovigo, live recording, 28/5/2024. Piano Boesendorfer VC 280. https://lnkd.in/dfsAjyWM Track 4: Murray Perahia, CD SONY (originally released in LP by CBS), recorded in 1972. Piano Steinway https://lnkd.in/dpV3UAVg Many of you probably already recognized Arrau’s famous recording, as well as Perahia’s early recording. Barenboim’s recent CD is lesser known, and also particularly interesting for the use of the Barenboim straight-strung piano. The “outsider” was the young Italian pianist (19 years old) Francesca Antonucci, a student of mine at the Conservatorio di Rovigo, who played this piece in a student concert last May 28. This experiment also intends to compare, without labels, young performers with great interpreters, also to stimulate the listeners’ curiosity and to encourage young performers in continuing their musical research and sharing their achievements. #blindtestresults #robertoprosseda

Mirror Me!, interactive video installation, exhibited at Ars Electronica Festival Linz, AT, 2023. Reflections are formed in our minds and shape our ideas about who we are. Mirror Me! is an attempt to answer from different perceptions, the question: Who am I? What is the nature of self-reflection and how does it shape our perception of personal identity? Viewers are encouraged to look beyond the obvious and delve deeper into the intricate connections that shape our identity. Mirror Me! becomes a metaphor for self-discovery, as we recognize that our identity is not isolated, but intricately intertwined with our surroundings. In cooperation with Ahmed Jamal.

As many of you are aware, the art world is facing increasing challenges, especially with upcoming budget cuts. This already highly competitive field has become even tougher for professionals who dedicate their lives to an art career. Unlike many other industries, the art ecosystem is fragile and often lacks the systemic support it needs to thrive. Recognizing these circumstances, Art of Small was born out of a desire to support the sustainable growth of professionals and the art and culture ecosystem in Finland. Our mission is to create an inclusive, supportive platform for artists—where seasoned professionals and young talents can exhibit their work side by side, fostering a true sense of community in a landscape that is often plagued by gatekeeping. In this test run for 2024, we’ve structured the open call to reflect our core values. Affordability is key, not just for artists but for art lovers as well. Every piece in the exhibition will be small-sized and priced at €250 or less, making it possible for more people to start or grow their own art collections without breaking the bank. I encourage all art enthusiasts—whether seasoned collectors or those new to the art world—to support this endeavour. Your contributions will help us build a thriving art community here in Finland, one that encourages growth, collaboration, and sustainability for artists at all stages of their careers. To my fellow artist colleagues, we see you. This is a space built for you, and I hope many of you will participate in what we hope will be the start of something transformative. Let's build a community that values creativity, inclusivity, and supporting one another. #artmarket #tampereinterculturalart #ticas #theartofsmall #näyttelyhaku #exhibitionopencall #tampere
