Here's an opportunity for us to build toward next year 2024 and every year thereafter - "30in30" - Month for Human Rights - as below !! "30in30 - From Remembrance to Equity, Inclusion & Human Rights 2023" ( November 11 to December 10 ) - A possible shared effort to get all Canadians to pause and fully consider the real meaning and underlying significance of Remembrance Day - as well as its visceral connection to the International Day for Human Rights - let's consider the fact that there are 30 days between November 11 ( Remembrance Day ) and December 10 ( the International Day for Human Rights ) with December 10th of course being the anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( UDHR ) in 1948 ! As the UDHR - in its 75th anniversary year - has 30 Articles - one for each of the 30 days that separate these two reflective moments in our shared provincial, national and international consciousness - "30in30 - From Remembrance to Equity, Inclusion & Human Rights" is an opportunity to consider each of the Articles - day by day - as we travel from "remembrance" to why it was and is that we engage(d) in such violent forms of conflict resolution - to the preservation and/or pursuit of freedom, equity, inclusion, fairness and human rights !! Understanding the significance of the 30 day connection between Remembrance Day and the International Day for Human Rights - the "30in30" month long learning initiative provides the space to more creatively apply an equity and justice informed understanding of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, our Human Rights Codes and Commissions, the Canadian Human Rights Act and other of our equity and justice relevant domestic laws and policies - as well as how they connect with the full spectrum of international human rights legal instruments. Instruments such as the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ( UNDRIP ), the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination ( ICERD ), the twin International Covenants on - Economic, Social and Cultural Rights ( ICESCR ) and Civil and Political Rights ( ICCPR ), the Convention on the Rights of the Child ( CRC ), the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities ( CRPD ), the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women ( CEDAW ), the Statement on Human Rights, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity ( December 2008 ) and many critical others ! In this the 75th anniversary year of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights ( UDHR ) - Colour of Poverty - Colour of Change encourages everyone to creatively harness the 30 days as and how they wish - and in whichever way makes most sense to them - to connect your special events or regular programming or otherwise take best advantage of the opportunity for teaching and learning and for taking human rights ACTION !!

🇨🇦 I help newcomers, immigrants, and businesses connect across cultures to succeed in less time and pain 🇨🇦 Intercultural Trainer 🇨🇦 ICF Certified Coach
That's one thing I love about Canada. How many cultures were represented? 👇 Specifically, I'm talking about all the attendees at our third major Catalytic Meet-Up event yesterday. If we include places we have lived, there were quite a few. Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Syria, Taiwan, Ukraine... That's of course just talking about national cultures. We also had significant regional, professional, and generational diversity. Those are part of culture too. So many experiences that add to our cultural diversity... When we can communicate effectively with each other, that diversity is a strength. I firmly believe that Canada can be stronger as a whole than the sum of its parts. It just takes an understanding of our own biases, humility, and a willingness to learn. ********** Now, it's time for you to answer this question in the comments: Is cultural competency important for success in Canada?✍️ Megumi Noteboom, hope you can make it next time! #Canada #Culture #CrossCulturalCommunication #NewcomersToCanada #Success

Top 10 most OPEN African countries at the START of 2024: Interconnectivity is now more conceivable than ever thanks to the fast advancement of tech and its influence on tourism, especially in #AFRICA. People are no longer spoon-fed the complexities of other regions' cultures without some form of proof, especially with content found online, and as a result, there is less and less skepticism about #travel, as unpleasant clichés have been dispelled. Traveling these days has grown more appealing as a new wave of integration sweeps the globe. As mankind continues to advocate for cultural interactions, an increasing number of individuals are encountering and welcoming people from other nations, allowing understanding to replace #conflict. However, one obstacle stands in the way of full integration and that is the openness of a country. It is one thing to want to visit a country and it is another to actually have the permission to. While humanity has made significant strides toward integration, there is still a lot of work to be done. There are still regions that need to be more open to outsiders, whether it means being less distrustful of other people or making their country safe for outsiders to visit. Needless to say, certain nations meet this criterion: they are eager to contact people from different areas, they are hospitable, they are willing to share their culture, they have a conducive and safe environment, and they have a respectable to thriving #economy. Simply put, some countries have a very high openness index. The Openness Index, a metric that gauges a nation's accessibility and receptiveness to global trade, ideas, and collaboration, stands as a key indicator of a country's economic, social, and cultural vibrancy. With that said below are the most open African countries. 8 of the top 10 most open countries in the world are African. Additionally, these 8 African countries all share 1st place as they allow 198 countries the freedom to visit. #Somalia and #Togo also share the second position, as they too allow 197 countries to visit, despite not being on the top 10 list. https://lnkd.in/ekQkeUA9 #TransformingAfrica #TheAfricaWeWant #AfCFTA #BrandAfrica #AU #GDP #Investment #Africa #AfricaMeansBusiness #ThisIsAfrica #Diaspora #IT #OneAfrica #AUC #TransAfricanHighway #SMEs #CreatingOneAfricanMarket #Invest #Tariffs #TheAfCFTAEffect #Trade #AI #AfricaRising #IntraAfricanTrade #Agenda2063 #Partnerships #AfCFTATV #WB #BuildBackBetter #InvestInAfrica #AfricanUnity #IMF #WTO #AfDB #TradeNotAid #AfCFTATrading #TravelToAfrica #CFTA #SAATM #TradeInAfrica #TradeUnderAfCFTA #JoinAfCFTA #AfricaOnTheMove #Infrastructure #Tourism #VisitAfrica #MadeInAfrica #AfCFTASecretariat #PanAfricanism #Investors #PAPSS #ZLECAF #AfricanSolutionsToAfricanProblems #Growth #BetterAfricaBetterWorld #StrongerTogether #UnitedUnderAfCFTA #AfCFTA2024 #Africa2024 #AfricaYesWeCAN

Celebrating South Africa on Heritage Day! At Human First Consulting, we believe that our rich diversity is our strength. Celebrating Heritage Day reminds us of the beauty of embracing our differences—our cultures, languages, and traditions. Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is not just about understanding others; it's about valuing and learning from the experiences that make each of us unique. Elevating our understanding of different cultures opens doors to innovation, inclusivity, and respect in the workplace. This Heritage Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we can build inclusive environments where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued—whether at work or in our communities. Through Cultural Intelligence, we can bridge gaps, challenge biases, and create meaningful connections that drive collaboration and success. Let’s celebrate our heritage, and the future we are building together, one that is more inclusive and culturally intelligent. Happy Heritage Day, South Africa/Mzansi! #HeritageDay #CulturalIntelligence #InclusionMatters #HumanFirstConsulting #DiversityAndInclusion #CQ #SouthAfrica

I feel so fortunate to have been able to attend the 26th Metropolis Canada Conference, Our Immigration System: The Way Forward. As someone working primarily in language training services, I found the conference to be an incredible opportunity to learn more about the challenges (and opportunities) facing migrants globally, nationally and locally. For me, the three plenary sessions were especially valuable. On Day Two, Yves-Gérard Méhou-Loko, one of the plenary speakers, asked a question that crystalized things for me: "In what way does the identity of my neighbour change me?" Here are a few other statements and imperatives I heard at the plenaries that were impactful or thought-provoking to me, and that I want to share: ▪️ It's not only data that's needed, but leadership. ▪️ Going along with something isn't the same as embracing it. ▪️ Immigration is not simply about economics and demographics; it's also about understanding. ▪️ Integration and inclusion are not the same thing. ▪️ Be intentional; outcomes aren't reached by accident. ▪️ Be creative with non-traditional partnerships. ▪️ Pay attention to how questions are framed.

I think most of the people living in the regions face such difficulties. Enterprises in rural and peripheral locations have fewer opportunities to join regional R&D networks than enterprises in metropolitan areas, making it more difficult for them to generate innovations. Employing international high skilled migrants can help enterprises in rural and peripheral locations compensate for their locational disadvantage by increasing access to internationally distributed knowledge resources within their organizations.
