I couldn't agree more with my colleagues. A holistic view of marketing measurement requires an integrated approach that goes beyond just MMM. Only a combination of Marketing Mix Modeling (to understand media performance), Incrementality Testing (to test new strategies), and Attribution (to optimize specific touchpoints) will enable marketing managers to better tackle the challenge of marketing ROI.

Businesses are more alert about extracting value from their costs and investments. Marketing is always top of the list. But if programs appear not to work, "stopping" is often the default decision. However if data is included in that decision, it stops that "default effect" by allowing businesses to know whether to spend more, where to spend it, and to be more certain about its performance. Data creates a catalytic effect: adding it to existing marketing decisions creates incremental benefits that go further than performance measurement.
