🚢 Have you ever wondered what is the difference between Lanes vs. Routes? 🌍 Routes: The general path a ship takes, like the journey from Asia to Europe via the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, and Suez Canal. Lanes: Specific, designated areas in the water for organized and safe marine traffic, like the marked lanes in the English Channel. 🌊 #SecureStores #FunFact #MaritimeKnowledge

Happy World Maritime Day! And happy 50th birthday to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (#SOLAS) Convention: in fact, this year’s theme for #WMD is “Navigating the future: Safety first!” , recognizing that safety remains paramount in a changing environment as the shipping one. The SOLAS Convention was first adopted in 1914, in response to the #Titanic disaster. It is widely recognized as the most important international treaty on maritime safety. INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR AIDS TO NAVIGATION's daily job directly links to SOLAS, as Aids to Navigation (#AtoN) play a crucial role in enhancing safety of life at sea.

Interesting Chinese OS media reporting that the PLA's air craft carrier Fujian's recent sea trial, went off splendidly. The third since May 2024, suggests the pace might be quickening to get Beijing's newest supercarrier into active service by 2025. Launched in 2022, this boosts China's anti-access/area denial capabilities and whenever the vessel enters the PLA's ever changing ORBAT, means significant changes to the regional balance of power are here sooner, rather than later (Pic source below).

Recommended. This is definately interesting! 🤩 First of all when you love the ocean 🌊 and marine conservation 🐬 and second, as an impressive example of program/portfolio management. @ Stephen Jenner if this is not yet in your upcoming book it is certainly worth a Case study! #ocean #azores #conservation #governance #P3O #portfolio #apmg

If icebreakers are indeed built — whether they will be sufficient to revitalise US shipbuilding is another subject of discussion. For example, how will they be operated, and how will their services be rendered? Will they be employed to open up lanes or escort vessels from friendly nations? Will there be separate icebreaker fleets for different geopolitical blocs? And how might affiliation be determined: by ownership or management of the vessel, the vessel’s flag, its crew, or the origin and destination of its cargo? These are difficult questions to answer.
