Sometimes taking a risk in your career pays off. I took a risk moving from a company I had known for over 10 years to a small company doing something completely different. It was calculated, and I knew it was going to come with sacrifice. But honestly, my experience here has been incredible. #PMSS truly lives their value “Think Team First”. They provide so much to their employees to make the work experience better. Whether it’s offering certain positions the ability to work a hybrid schedule, offering a range of benefits that promote well-being, having a vegetable garden on-site to provide employees with fresh produce, to giving team members food and other gifts throughout the year. Today, I received a $150 gift card to Giant as a thank you for a successful school year! And they are having a cookout and serving food to EVERY EMPLOYEE that works here. This is how to keep turnover low. This is how to remind people that they are more than just a number. And this is how you entice people who are looking for the highest dollar amount in their wages, to consider staying loyal to a company who actually shows their employees they care. It might not work for everyone, but it certainly makes me think twice about moving to a different company.

I got given this gift card back in February, and it’s starting to frustrate me. 😖 Why? I really appreciate it and love the person who gave it to me. But I know I have a limited time to use it and still have no idea what to spend it on. 🤷♂️ There is nothing I need that is the value of the voucher, and on then on the odd occasion I treat myself to M&S Food, I remember it’s in my wallet just as my card payment goes through. Agh!! 😮💨 If I'd got a fancy box of M&S chocolates or a posh bottle of fizz, I'd 100% have devoured it by now. So, if you’re using gift cards as gifts in the workplace, do you think a similar thing might be happening? No one takes a picture of a gift card and posts it online (unless you’re me 🤓). How many pics do you see online of people who have received a lovely gift? Don’t get me wrong, Huggg sell gift cards - they 100% have a time and place. 🙏 But would receiving a thoughtful gift work better for things like long service or for life events? What about where the value of the vouchers is low? What has more impact? A £15 voucher? Or a case of craft beer for a craft beer fan? Evaluate where gift cards work, and where they don’t work. This isn’t a very “LinkedIn” type post, but it’s important to me. Winter weather is deadly for people without shelter. Through our volunteer work, my husband and I have seen that firsthand — it’s devastating. Are you looking for a relatively low-effort way to help our unhoused friends during winter weather? If carrying around warmth items isn’t something you want to do, here’s a suggestion: 💳 Gift cards to McDonald’s or other fast food restaurants with seating areas. Understandably, restaurants want folks in their seating areas to be paying for food. That gift card provides a little food and, importantly, a place to get out of the cold for a while. Shelters tend to close at 6:00 am, but it’s still cold out. And there aren’t a lot of places to go afterwards. Grab a few gift cards and keep them on-hand. Easy to give to someone in a quick exchange.

As a consumer, I am a BIG proponent of filling out surveys. 📝 Yes, I know. Everyone's inbox is overflowing with spam and promotions. Take the time to fill out a survey? Why bother? I'll tell you why I often fill out surveys I receive in my inbox. 1. You can use a survey to help give an employee well deserved props. Sometimes good employees can get overlooked by management- especially in the chaotic and busy world of retail. Whether it's the barista that went above and beyond answering all your questions about nitro cold brew or the friendly guest service rep at Target, mentioning them in a survey can help get them the recognition they deserve! 2. Filling out a survey can help improve a bad experience for yourself and others. Businesses that send out surveys are businesses that are willing to improve. Maybe your wait time was took far too long at the bank, a menu at a restaurant had incorrect prices, or a parking lot was full of snow and impossible to use. No matter what the problem was, letting a business know about it is the first step towards an issue will ever be fixed in the future. 3. Often, you'll be entered to win a prize such as a gift card or you'll receive a special coupon! Who doesn't love free stuff? Gift card drawings are very common incentives for customers filling out surveys. Winning isn't guaranteed, of course, but the chance to win a $250 gift card to your favorite store is a fantastic incentive for a 2 minute survey! Sometimes fast food restaurants will have more direct incentives, such as a free drink or discount code on your next meal. Next time you get a survey in your inbox from a business, maybe take the time to fill it out!
