"It’s bringing more joy and artistic expression into my life!" Leila has been with us for a little while now, and the joy she brings to the studio is only matched by the joy that she gets out of dancing! Always loving the music at the studio, Leila is a blast to have around, and the perfect candidate for this weeks student spotlight! Having danced ballet as a child, she says "I discovered that ballet steps and positions from my ballet years in my childhood are helpful in ballroom dancing. There is such a thing as body memory and a skill from long ago is never wasted." So cool! And we would whole heartily agree! Movement is such a healthy part of life, and having something that gets your heart pumping, WHILE having fun, is what we preach! "I needed some kind of exercise and sheer athleticism, and the health club felt lifeless and boring. Ballroom Dancing was a great discovery for me!" Always one to take advantage of dance experiences around here, she never misses an event! "The great thing about the studio is when you’re taking private lessons you can also go to the group classes so you can experience other instructors as well. The showcase events are motivating and give you a fun goal to work towards. It's also a great social experience. I always feel happy after dance lessons!" Thanks for being such a positive force in the studio, Leila!! #dance #benefitsofdance #socialdance #funfitness #hearthealthy #mindbodyconnection

AI is a powerful tool, but according to Microsoft Copilot, it is unlikely to replace ballet dancers entirely. In fact, our favorite new assistant went on to explain why in a 5-point thesis that emphasized the importance of human emotion, #creativity, and interpretation in the art of ballet. Simply put, AI lacks the depth and personal touch that dancers bring to their performances. I mean, clearly! 💫 While #AI can assist in certain aspects, the collaborative process is inherently #human. Indeed!!! Speaking of beautiful real dancers, mark your calendars for April 27th and join us for Hollywood Ballet’s "Poetry in Motion", the first #Fundraising Gala Performance, followed by a Reception and Dinner at the BroadStage in Santa Monica! Hollywood Ballet is a new dance company that combines the powerful elegance of ballet with the dazzling allure of #Hollywood. For all our LA friends and connections, come support the new ballet company that is “ready to revamp L.A.’s ballet scene” according to Los Angeles Times. Get your tickets now and join us for an unforgettable evening where movement becomes poetry, and #ballet transcends time. 🎟 tickets available here: https://lnkd.in/deax5Aft And while we’re on the topic of AI-powered tools, we’d like to give a shout-out to the amazing platforms we use daily: Wix for our website, Intuit Mailchimp for all our email campaign management, Canva for our design creation, Givebutter for our donor base management, and of course, Tixr for our ticketing platform (we couldn't do this without you!). #ballet #losangeles #fundraisers #gala #AI

Custom research. Embrace consumer understanding, unlock genuine insights, empower decisions for growth
A teenager quits ballet after more than a decade of dancing, having started in the ‘tots’ class and a highlight of her dancing decade being one of the sugar plum fairies in the Nut Cracker, performed alongside Charlize Theron. She hangs up her pointe shoes for the last time, a mix of relief and sadness washing over her. The shoes are pain. The shoes are achievement. The shoes are determination. But mostly the shoes are evidence that she’ll never be a real ballerina. It’s time to accept the truth: she doesn’t have what it takes. She is me. I loved ballet but I couldn’t do pointe-work. My feet, are quite frankly, the wrong shape. My big toes are too long, my other toes too short so my ballet career had to end when the only progression was to pointe work: after all, trying to balance on only one toe is always going to be painful and hard work. Business is the same: if you’re balancing on one toe, it’s a lot harder to stay upright. You need resources who are going to help make decisions easier, who provide recommendations that count for something, who understand your business, who are opinionated and will challenge you to be and do better. Consumer research has an issue and a reputation for not giving stakeholders what they actually need. We’re excellent at providing data and sometimes even a genuine insight, but we’re missing the commercial stepping stone to the stakeholders. (May I stress that this is not every agency!) What it means, however, is that internal insight managers, on top of relationship management, project logistics and supplier oversight, have to do extra legwork with agency-provided research and stakeholders become more disenchanted with the claims that agencies make about their commercial acumen. So here’s a suggestion: why not get *ALL* stakeholders into a room at the start of a research project to discuss what the research will be used for and what is possible with the research? It might be that other solutions are better, but isn’t it better to know that from the outset, rather than adding to everyone’s workload? (And yes, these are my pointe shoes from all those years ago.) #marketresearch #consumerinsights #consumertruths #humantruths #consumerresearch

Is classical ballet a sport? This mental health awareness week is all about movement, recognising the role it plays in our lives and our mental wellbeing. I started ballet as a child but abandoned it before becoming a teen. During the pandemic, I had my first ballet class as an adult. And fell back in love with it! Today, between technical ballet classes and conditioning classes, I do at least six hours of ballet every week. It's a vital part of my routine and something I can't imagine going without. In my ballet class there are all sorts of people, with all sorts of ages and bodies. All working hard and having a great (even though painful) time in the process. Why am I sharing this? Because moving can sometimes feel really daunting. We may feel we don't have the right age... or that our body isn't in the right shape... Or that we don't have the right skills. It may even feel like exercising is beyond us. But as with most things in life, movement will look different for different people. And as with most things in life it's about finding how to do it... your way! (and as for the initial question: don't get fooled by poise and elegance. Behind every ballet dancer there's pain, sweat, strong muscles and a very veeery well trained poker face) Photo: Carol Lancelloti #mentalhealthawarenessweek

What are you brave enough to suck at? I took ballet for the first time at age 24. Every evening for a month, I drove across town and practiced ballet for two hours. I was in waaaaaaaay over my head. Ballet terms are in French--who knew? Not me. I was clueless when the teacher called out 'tendu,' 'rond de jambe,' etc. And it was *hard.* I got into amazing shape that summer. Now, I watch ballet and wonder how the dancers are not all red-faced and puffing. You know what, though? I had the *best* time. That ballet class is one of my most joyful memories. Being an absolute beginner is okay--exhilarating, even. We think we need to have stuff figured out before we begin; and yet we only figure things out by doing. (And the doing turns out to be...fun. Surprise!) If you want to write a nonfiction book but you're an absolute beginner and have no idea where to start--I've got you. I created Book In Six to take aspiring nonfiction authors all the way from "idea" to "the end" in six months, with 183 days' worth of specific action items. It's everything I've learned about writing nonfiction books, all in one place. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gmJyzfpK When is the last time you were an absolute beginner? My most recent experience with this: salsa lessons! So fun! 💃 [Image: the author in a jean jacket, white shirt, floral shirt and white chunky shoes. Mistakes are apart of growth, we have to embrace it! You learn so much more through failure than if you try to do everything perfectly the first time. As Artistic Directors, you get to see this firsthand. As you teach your students new steps, you get to watch them: 💠 try something new 💠 make mistakes and get corrections 💠 then course-correct and successfully complete the new step As the owner of your ballet school, you are giving children a safe, warm environment for them to try new things! Yes, at first they will fail, but through your guidance and corrections, your students will learn so much more than if they were afraid to try in the first place. What you are doing is incredible, not only for their dancing, but for their development into an adult. You are showing them that mistakes are essential for learning, not something to be avoided like the plague. As a ballet copywriter, I always suggest my clients show parents the benefits of ballet on: 💠 their website 💠 inside newsletters 💠 and on social media And I feel this is one of the most important benefits ballet can give a child. (I know it has made an incredible impact on my own life) 🔹 🔹 🔹 🔹 You need to advertise that you have a safe and welcoming space for children to learn, grow and discover who they are. Not only as a dancer, but as a person! If you want to showcase the welcoming environment your school has, but are not quite sure how to go about it, you’ve come to the right place. Hi there, I’m Isabella, a ballet copywriter 👋 When I write for clients, I first want to learn all about your school, values and the goals you have for your school. Through different copywriting techniques, we will show parents EXACTLY why your school is a wonderful place for your child to learn, grow and discover who they are! Next thing you know, you will have new students knocking on your door! 🔹 🔹 🔹 🔹 If you are interested in learning more about what ballet copywriting means for your school, send me a DM! I would love to talk to you and see if we are a good fit to work together :)

"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" - a popular quote from Friedrich Nietzsche paraphrased and used in pop culture from his book of aphorisms titled "Twilight of the Idols". "Aus der Kriegsschule des Lebens--Was mich nicht umbringt, macht mich stärker,” which is: “Out of life’s school of war—what doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger.” We used to blindly use this phrase as ballet students when dealing with harsh + critical teachers, which is what I found to be a delicate balance. The balance between the progress that can be made only from a strict and harsh ballet teacher vs. the delicate psyche of a student. The ballet world at present and pop culture movements of safe spaces were things we could only dream of in the past, however coddling and praising students with undeserved credit only serves to weaken the resilience, strength, and dedication learned from precisely those harsh and strict teachers. The gold standard of ballet and its heritage I believe should not be sacrificed to "weak psyches"--unless it becomes a hobby rather than profession. Similar to a test of mental strength in M.I.T., professional ballet programs require students to pass a final exam with these "harsh" teachers making sure students adhere to the strict qualities + requirements that keep the art alive. There must always be a delicate balance between strict discipline and a safe space, including an integrated symbiosis + understanding between the student and teacher.

We’re pretty chuffed to have been selected as part of Creative Denmark’s recent global outreach promoting Danish creativity. This week, their white paper "Creativity as A Driver for Quality of Life" was released. We've contributed with a case close to our hearts. And our sore feet: The Ballet of Creativity. You know, that seemingly ridiculous idea of dancing ballet with your colleagues once a week during office hours for six months, then performing on stage at Tivoli. Which, in fact, turned out to be a brilliant idea. As our boss, Ørnulf Johnsen, puts it: "Everything about working at &Co. confirms the connection between creativity and quality of life. It‘s fun, enriching, and rewarding. Dancing ballet is a great example of this, but working alongside truly creative people everyday is the real treat." Below is our contribution, but do yourself a favor and check out the full white paper: https://bit.ly/4edbcn2 #DrivenByCreativity #LetCreativityDrive #CreativeDenmark
