Microlearning: Your go-to choice for last-minute knowledge refresher. Microlearning is the practice of delivering content in small, focused chunks (ELDRIDGE, 2017). These microlearning experience usually takes 2 - 5 minutes of instruction from beginning to end, focusing on a specific learning outcome. Microlearning allows users to complete tasks at any time and place that best accommodates their schedule (Javorcik et al., 2023). Microlearning can improve the workplace as users will learn quickly without interruption and too much content at once. Research by Shank (2021) suggests that "microlearning improves information retention by 25% over long training" (para. 36). Benefits of microlearning include: Take less time than traditional instruction. Engage learners in instruction as they know their learning will take 2 - 5 minutes. Improves knowledge retention. Learn on the go (mobile learning). Fit any schedule. Allow for learning personalization.

Why do I love them? ❶ They provide clarity around what learning is, and they go beyond the traditional classroom training to incorporate learning in all its forms and complexity ❷ They are simple and easy to understand by everyone, within our outside L&D. Low on jargon, it can align everyone around what learning is ❸ They do what they preach - the design is beautiful, which made me explore all the principles patiently, without feeling overwhelmed, bored, or feeling "this is yucky" ❹ They are specific enough to be the north stars of every learning program you create as an L&D, while also making it easy to explain to others why certain programs are designed in certain ways This made me think 💭 how many L&D teams state so clearly and beautifully their principles? #learninganddevelopment
