Spoiler alert: The way you're probably teaching power skills today is not working. 🤯 So many organizations today rely on self-paced e-learning to teach their employees better communication, collaboration, and leadership. But self-paced e-learning falls short in delivering the depth and dynamic environment needed for mastering these skills. Enter live collaborative learning — a game-changer in power skills training. Why does collaborative learning work so much better than self-paced e-learning for power skills? 🌎 Real-world practice: Unlike self-paced e-learning, live collaborative learning offers real-time practice with expert guidance, amplifying skill building through human interaction. 🚀 Motivational boost: Shared accountability and validation from peers provide a level of motivation that self-paced e-learning simply can't match, ensuring sustained engagement and growth. 🧠 Psychological safety: The supportive environment of collaborative learning fosters confidence and inclusivity, a stark departure from the isolation of e-learning. So you've made the case for collaborative learning — but how in the world do you now create effective collaborative learning experiences? Well, our team is sharing all the lessons we've learned from delivering 100,000+ learning hours at Hone. Get all our secrets to success here: https://lnkd.in/eVCDT8e6

Reposting something I shared on Facebook last 2023 when I had to attend an online/blended learning format for a Maritime-related module (as my prep for a cruise ship job). It's been a year since, but it seems a lot of training providers still can't distinguish between online training and F2F classes. [quote] Dear Trainers, Training Centers/Providers, and Organizations/Clients, when using blended learning as a means of training, don't treat the online component as though it's a face-to-face format. Don't do 8-hour trainings with hardly any breaks, doing mostly a full-on lecture. There is such a thing as strain or fatigue from extended staring at a screen. Here are my suggestions: 1. Split the whole day training into 4 chunks or more during the day, with breaks. Emphasize on stretch breaks and bio breaks. 2. The entire day doesn't have to be a synchronous session, i.e. all of you are doing the class at the same time. Have asynchronous sessions, where there's either a pre-work or a long break where they are given readings or activities to do on their own. Then set a time for regrouping, i.e. synchronous session. 3. Have participants read slides for the class during the session. 4. Use different media and interactive approaches: show videos (just ensure that your WiFi is dependable enough to stream such video; alternately, you can give a Youtube link for the asynchronous), play music, have games like Kahoot, and PLEASE make sure that your presentation slides are visually-enticing and stimulating. 5. Use Breakout Rooms for group activities. Have group leaders act as "mini-yous" in the rooms, especially if you're in another breakout room. 6. Use polls and other survey tools. 7. Always check for information overload and fatigue/strain -- then take breaks. Good luck and have a great blended learning session! [end quote] PS. This also applies to Zoom meetings 😉
