Cinema’s Potential for Inclusion: A Personal Reflection Recently, during the International Film Festival of India held in Goa (#iffigoa), I had the opportunity to meet the legendary filmmaker #ManiRatnam. I explained to him our efforts to train persons with disabilities in filmmaking courses and provide them with opportunities. I wanted to interview him on the topic of “inclusion in cinema.” However, he was busy, and I could not get the opportunity. The film industry is one area where a lot can be done to make it more inclusive. Iconically, on screen, many impossible things are shown as possible. Yet, including persons with disabilities in different fields of filmmaking is often considered a herculean task. Unfortunately, a lot of sensitization is required. Promoting inclusion in cinema has great potential to positively influence crores of viewers. By showcasing diverse talents and stories, we can foster understanding and empathy within society. Ahmedabad Film Festival Elevates Gujarati Cinema Globally, Attracts 3,600+ Entries from 105 Countries for 2025.: The Ahmedabad International Film Festival (AIFF), founded by a spiritual leader and arts advocate, has significantly transformed Gujarati cinema by providing a global platform for local talent. Established in 2010, AIFF offers opportunities for writers, directors, actors, and musicians, helping the industry gain international recognition. Despite initial challenges, the festival successfully launched with the Cine Aishwarya Awards in 2012. The founder's dedication to the arts and support for disabled artists has earned him national accolades. The Bhutani Group's Film City project in Noida is a significant development in the Indian film industry. It is being built in a public-private partnership with the Uttar Pradesh government and is expected to be a world-class facility. The Film City will be located near the Noida airport and will span over 1,000 acres. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed in three years.
