#tbt 🧍♀️ Nearly two decades ago, the award-winning Turkish initiative For Women by Women (FWBW - Kadınlar İçin Kadınlar Tarafından) showcased the transformative power of #art in the fight against #violence toward #women. Over 200 female #photographers united to challenge societal norms and raise funds for shelters like the Mersin Independent Women’s Support Association and the Women’s Solidarity Association in Urfa, offering vital psychological support and counseling for girls and women aged 15 and older who have survived abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and trauma. 📸FWBW’s journey began with a groundbreaking auction of #photographs donated by 111 photographers in Istanbul. The initiative quickly expanded, with exhibitions traveling across Türkiye—from Istanbul to Diyarbakır, Kars, Urfa, Izmir, and Çanakkale—and internationally to cities like London and Washington, D.C. Through education and fundraising, FWBW ignited positive action and inspired change. Yet the fight is far, far from over—not just in Türkiye, but worldwide! ‼️ 1 in 3 women globally will experience violence in their lifetime. Every 10 minutes, a woman is killed due to gender-based violence. This crisis of #femicide is preventable ‼️ 🟠 On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, let us commit to #real action: ✊ #Empowerment: Ensure girls have access to quality education and resources for safety, support, and financial independence. 💬 💑 #Education: Teach boys and men about healthy masculinity and gender equality from an early age, fostering equitable relationships. ⚖️ #Accountability: Strengthen laws and policies to protect women, enforce justice, and address systemic inequalities, including economic disparities. 💪 Together, we can end violence against girls and women and build a safer, more equitable world. #NoExcuse #Stophonorkillings #endviolenceagainstwomen #endviolenceagainstwomenandgirls #womensright #humanrights #equality #sdg5 Bikem Ekberzade Asena Yosun Denizeri Belmin Soylemez Nil S. What if there was a way to fight gender inequality, alleviate poverty and speak truth to power all at once? I've just had the most inspiring chat with Amina Mohamed and I think her organisation, Cameras For Girls is doing just that. Camera's for Girls provides women in Uganda, and soon all of Africa, who face gender-based barriers to employment with a camera to keep and a photography, storytelling, and business-skills curriculum to support their goals of becoming paid journalists and photographers in male-dominated spaces. I think its a hugely innovate concept. If you do too click the link below to donate. https://lnkd.in/gfsuu2dy Pravi.ai

Today, Asymmetric by Design joins the global community in marking #HumanRightsDay and the end of the #16DaysofActivism Against Gender-Based Violence. This annual campaign calls for an end to violence against women and girls and shines a spotlight on the alarming rise in violence against women worldwide. As part of our commitment to empowering women, Asymmetric by Design proudly donates 20% of the sales of our Women’s Rights Collection to Women for Women International, which helps women in conflict zones rebuild their lives and communities. https://lnkd.in/eHUfZjRf A special tribute to the #womenofSyria: “Syrian women have played a vital role in what we have reached today despite discrimination and displacement. Many are the main breadwinners for their families and children. They've gone to courts to fight for justice and accountability. Syrian women must continue to have their powerful role in the future of Syria because Syria belongs to its people and Syria belongs to Syrian women.” — Zeina Kanawati, Senior Communications Officer, Women for Women International To mark today, I’m working with Dress for Success Montréal, an organization that believes in providing women with the tools they need to become financially independent, find employment, and break the cycle of poverty. We stand firm in the belief that all women deserve equal rights, access to education, and the opportunity to live free from violence. Let’s continue to stand together for equality, justice, and human dignity. Every action counts. Every voice matters. #HumanRightsDay2024 #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #Empowerment #EqualityForAll #WomenSupportingWomen #ShatteringTheGlassCeiling #AsymmetricByDesign mmode UN Women

2023 sure was marked by crises and conflicts. But most of all, it was a year of determination to continue working for equality and women's rights. Here and now, and long-term. Thanks to the generous support to our emergency fund from our private and corporate donors in Sweden, Kvinna till Kvinna was able to provide emergency relief in Ukraine, Syria, Rwanda, Tunisia, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Armenia. And thanks to our major partners, monthly donors and institutional donors, we were able to support over 150 women's rights organisation's projects and long-term work for women’s rights. There are several key achievements from 2023, but one from DR Congo stands out. One of our local partner organisations, composed of young female lawyers, provided legal support to women and girls who had been subjected to gender-based violence. As a result, 23 cases against men working in the security sector were brought to court. All of them resulted in guilty verdicts—an important precedent. At Cameras For Girls, we’re on a mission to do more than teach #photography. We’re giving young women across #Africa the tools to break barriers in #maledominatedmediaspaces—and it’s working! ✅ Over 80% of our graduates have landed journalism, communications, and photography jobs. ✅ We’ve provided cameras, mentorship, and practical training to empower women to tell the stories the world needs to hear—so far, that's 89 cameras to 89 girls through our year-long, four-phase program in Uganda and Tanzania. ✅ And now, we’re scaling up—ready to train 75 young women in Uganda next year, giving them cameras, skills, and a future filled with opportunity. But here’s the truth: none of this happens without YOU. Every donation, every shared post, and every word of encouragement fuels the fire behind this movement. 👉 Here’s how you can help: 1️⃣ Become a one-time or monthly donor. Your ongoing support ensures more women get the training and tools they need to succeed. Donate at https://lnkd.in/gFyV9tTv 2️⃣ Share this post. Visibility matters. Help us connect with those who believe in gender equality and storytelling. 3️⃣ Collaborate with us. Are you part of a media organization, NGO, or corporate team? Let’s talk about how we can work together. 🎯 Imagine this: A world where young women in Africa not only tell their own stories but shape how the world sees them. That’s the vision we’re building—one camera, one story, and one life at a time. 💬 We’d love to hear from you. Which stories have inspired you to act for change? Drop a comment, share your thoughts, or let’s connect! Let’s create a future where every woman has a voice—and the tools to amplify it. 💪✨ #GenderEquality #PhotographyForChange #CamerasForGirls #Empowerment #StorytellingMatters
