While applying for jobs in the UK They asked for a masters degree - I have They asked for relevant experience - I have Valid Work permit/ right to work in the UK - I have After creating an account, filling all my personal details, education & experience information and then drafting the cover letter and resume according to the Job description. I spent almost an hour and then finally after clicking the submit button. I received an automated email response that this role is no longer available. One week later, I saw the same role advertised on LinkedIn. Just repeated the whole process to get a different email response that "Unfortunately, your resume is not shortlisted for this role, however we have added your resume to our database". I deserve an interview. I'm attaching my resume, please do refer me for data science, data analyst positions across the UK. Recruiter: I came across your profile, want to set up a 15 minute chat about a data scientist job? Me: No offense but I don't want to talk to you. Send the details via text. Recruiter: Sorry, we don't work like that, we have a process that has to be followed on behalf of the client. At this point I just blocked them. Maybe that's mean, but, if you want my opinion, get better clients if they're making you do stupid crap like this. I want to get messages from recruiters, that's why I'm #OpenToWork, but I know from looking at hundreds of job descriptions that 99% of jobs aren't right for me, and I can tell just by looking at the job description. If you don't give me the option to protect my own time (and yours!), especially right out of the gate, I can't work with you. It's just not practical.

Unsolicited advice for new grads seeking referrals: When reaching out to recruiters or hiring managers, avoid saying things like, "I'm interested in roles like data analyst/engineer/scientist." This can give the impression that you're unsure of your career direction and aren't targeting a specific role. Each of these positions has distinct responsibilities and skill sets. It's perfectly fine to be flexible in your job search, but it's important to demonstrate that you’re focused and passionate about a specific role. I recently had a conversation with one of my LinkedIn connections, who received over 10 interview calls for data science roles. However, despite having relevant experience, many recruiters were looking for candidates with 2 to 5+ years of experience, rather than entry-level professionals. Job searching is hard but do you all wanna know the pain of hiring managers? A Principal Data Science role was open for 2 months. 1. The recruiter uses ATS to condense 375 resumes to 15 that matches with the job description over 80%. 2. The hiring manager shortlists the top 5 to reduce time and effort interviewing all 15 and sends to the recruitment coordinator. 3. The RC spent 1 week to find a convenient time to each of the 5 candidates for their first round. 4. Three of them made it to the loop interview. 5. RC spends another 2 weeks to finalize the interview schedule. 6. Candidates completed their interviews in the next 2-3 weeks. 7. Final result - All 3 were rejected Hiring manager asks why? Recruiter informs that some engineer from another dept and the bar setter flagged them because they did not clear the coding challenge which was a “merge sort”. Hiring manager : but are these relevant to data science? Recruiter : 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ Hiring manager 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 The HM spends another few weeks finding the next top 5 candidates or reopen the job for fresh batch of candidates. This is a real incident. The hiring manager is my friend and the company is a big tech company. It’s understandable that technical interviews has evolved to have minimum bars and are generic towards programming but adjusting them towards relevant roles within engineering truly matters. Data structures are equally important but intense focus on algorithms are becoming fancy trying to hunt unicorns that don’t exist thus burning time and company’s money during the interview process. Bottom line - Month #3 and the principal data science role is still open. P.S . I hear hiring managers and recruiter’s problems within recruitment as improvisation efforts towards Recruit by ExpenseHut.
