💧 The project “FLEX4H2” has made it. The GT34, Ansaldo Energia’s first-class H gas turbine, can only operate by burning #hydrogen. An announced success whose merit goes to the new design of the combustor and to the commitment of the eight partners who launched the initiative in January 2023. Flexibility for Hydrogen, the full name of the project, was created to support the ambitious European climate goals by developing a combustion system flexible in terms of fuel and operation. In detail, the consortium, led by Ansaldo itself, has given itself 4 years to design, develop and validate a system that is safe, efficient and able to work with any concentration of hydrogen in the mixture. Up to 100% H2. A goal pursued in the most demanding combustion conditions, that is at operating temperatures of class H, required for maximum cycle efficiency. “TECNALIA is collaborating on developing a #highspeedhydrogentrain” “TECNALIA, the largest center of applied research and technological development in Spain, is working in collaboration with Talgo, Golendus, Ingeteam, Optimus3D, Repsol, Sener, Comillas Pontifical University and Adif to bring #hydrogenpropulsion to #highspeedtrains, the company announced.” “The HYMPULSO initiative is aimed at designing and building a renewable #hydrogenfuelcell-based propulsion system for high-speed trains. Led by Talgo, the consortium aims to #electrify the #railnetwork with energy generated entirely from renewable sources, even on routes without overhead lines. TECNALIA will carry out safety assessments, leak analysis and CFD simulations of hydrogen dispersion, as well as ATEX classification for the new #hydrogentrain “ “The goal is to develop, manufacture and test the #dualhybridhydrogenbatterydrive on a Talgo 250 train branch line, intended for long-distance operations on mixed sections: partially electrified and non-electrified. These #trains have two power cars (CET by its Spanish acronym) each, which are currently used to generate electricity to power the drive units. They currently use diesel on the sections without overhead lines. Under this initiative, one of these diesel CETs will be replaced by one equipped with #fuelcells and #batteries, which will supply electricity to the #locomotives from #renewablehydrogen. The project will activate the entire #renewablehydrogenvaluechain, from generation to consumption, in the #railwaysystem. It will also make it possible to analyse the impact that the future transition will have on different #railwayinfrastructure assets. Technology at its best.. Norway's TECO 2030 has secured an Approval in Principle (AIP) from DNV for its containerized fuel cell power generator (FCPG), designed for oceangoing applications. This innovative system seamlessly integrates with a ship's main switchboard, providing emission-free power generation through the production of warm water and air. Tore Enger, CEO of TECO 2030, highlights the versatility of this power generator, which can serve both propulsion and auxiliary power needs onboard ships, offering a scalable solution for multimegawatt installations without harmful emissions. TECO 2030 is advancing Europe's first Giga production facility for hydrogen PEM fuel cell stacks and modules in Narvik, Norway. The production capacity is expected to ramp up by 2025, reaching an output capacity of up to 200 MW, and escalating to 3.2 GW by 2030. This signifies a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions in maritime transport.
