Having worked with a few mid- to large-sized enterprises on their #GenAI initiatives, I have seen that (thanks to cloud-based tools) building a working prototype that excites the management and employees is the easiest part. But actually productionizing the same to derive business value, requires a razor-sharp focus from the CIO. This article from McKinsey Digital, lists seven hard truths for CIOs to get from pilot to scale.

📣 I had a terrific conversation with Alexei Alexis from CFO Dive about the next phase of #GenAI, and findings from the KPMG US 2024 AI and Digital Innovation quarterly pulse survey. Thanks for including our insights! To reap long-term benefits from GenAI, companies will need to make meaningful investments in areas like #data security, #governance frameworks, and #workforce readiness. This kind of preparation can pave the way for sustainable business value. In our survey, we saw that 43% of US-based business leaders from organizations with annual revenue of $1B+ expect to invest $100M or more in GenAI over the next 12 months. That amount of investment is probably in line with the transformational outcomes executives are hoping to achieve at this stage. A fantastic panel and conference. Thank you for organising this assembly. Subject: Re: Cutting through the market noise... Thomas Reuner and HFS Research thank you for raising such an important discussion on GenAI. I completely agree with the sentiment that "change is hard." Here's my perspective on some additional points that are crucial for successful Gen-AI adoption: 1. Balancing Hype and Reality: We must acknowledge the gap between GenAI's promise and the realities of implementation. Openly discussing limitations (like dataset biases and the "hallucination" issue) helps set realistic expectations and builds trust. 2. Prioritizing "Responsible AI": Alongside data management and cost concerns, conversations about ethics, bias mitigation, and explainability must be brought to the forefront from the very beginning of any GenAI initiative. 3. The Need for a Clear Business Plan Successful GenAI adoption hinges on a clear understanding of why it's being implemented, how it aligns with business objectives, and what tangible outcomes are expected. A sound business plan defines this roadmap. 4. The Crucial Role of Data: GenAI's power lies in its ability to process and extract insights from massive datasets. A strategy for effectively sourcing, managing, and utilizing data is essential for maximizing the value of GenAI investments. 5. Fostering a Learning Culture: As Rajesh Rajappan highlights, the convergence of IT and OT means successful GenAI adoption demands a willingness to experiment, learn, and adapt across teams. GenAI has the potential to be transformative, but it's critical to remember it is a tool. Let's focus on defining how this tool will uniquely serve our business goals and empower our people. Thanks again for sharing your insightful piece. I'd love to hear others' thoughts on developing effective business strategies with Gen-AI as a core component, particularly around the management and utilization of data! #GenAI #GenerativeAI #ArtificialIntelligence #DataStrategy #BusinessTransformation #ResponsibleAI

The guy you call when you're tired of thinking small // The AI guy at PMI // Turning code into magic since 2001
💰 Turning genAI hype into tangible value in 2024 tl;dr: Forget the genAI hype - McKinsey says 2024 is about rewiring your business to unlock its real potential. That means focusing on strategic use cases, upskilling talent, and building the right tech and data infrastructure for scale. * * * 📈 The Big Picture: We’re past the initial excitement of generative AI. Now comes the hard part: turning potential into actual business value but it's not as simple as launching a few pilots. Just like with the previous digital transformation, success with genAI demands a fundamental shift in how your company operates. 📊 What This Means for You: If you’re working in a company and want to deploy AI at scale, think about the following: 1/ Identify Your Competitive Edge: Don't just be a "taker" of readily available genAI tools; become a "shaper" – integrate these models with your unique data to create a real advantage. Think strategically about where genAI can truly transform your core business operations. 2/ Invest in the Right Skills: Yes, you need technical expertise in areas like prompt engineering and fine-tuning, but don't overlook the importance of design thinking, contextual understanding, and collaboration skills for your genAI teams. 3/ Build a Solid Foundation: Scaling genAI requires the right technology and data architecture, so prioritize data quality, particularly with unstructured data, and ensure your systems can handle the demands of genAI at scale. 🚀My take on it: The organizations that win with genAI won't be those who just dabble in small pilots. It will be the ones that commit to the hard work of rethinking their processes, upskilling their people, and building a robust data and technology infrastructure. #GenerativeAI #AI #DigitalTransformation #Upskilling #PeopleProcessTechnology

I try to invest some time reflecting at the end of each week--and that often bleeds into the weekend when I have a chance to clearly think about "what next" for the various things on my plate. If one of the things on your plate is addressing the massive AI opportunity in the context of your role, this article may help. I found that Kelly Stratman's way of framing up the characteristics of a good solution strategy was a good reminder of the basic--yet critically important--foundational elements that can lead to effectively harnessing AI for an organization. #BuildingBetterWorkingWorld
