ETCS hibrid train detection - innovative rail operation increasing trackside capacity - informative article
Our colleague Martin Hetzer along with other experts from Siemens Mobility and ICS - Informatik Consulting Systems has published an insightful technical article on “Innovative rail operations with ETCS Hybrid Train Detection” in the magazine Signal+Draht Eurailpress. ETCS Level 2 - Hybrid Train Detection (ETCS HTD), formerly known as ETCS Hybrid Level 3 will increase the line capacity for passenger and freight transport and reduce trackside equipment. As well new trains with integrity monitoring capabilities and older trains without can operate on HTD lines in mixed traffic. Curious? Learn more in the article attached. A big thanks for the effort to the authors! #oneOBUTeam #teamsiemens #TransformMobilityForEveryone Dr. Gregor Theeg Craig M. Heiko Saalbach Dr. Frank Wend Lorenz Giese Martin Haase

#https://lnkd.in/dVKjXPj8 #https://lnkd.in/d_Nzwn4g One-Stop-Shop" which means, there will be just a single application needed to get a certificate in contrast to the old process that required multiple applications at authorities in different countries, leading to different or conflicting requirements. The above mentioned IT tool is being the single window platform in matter of issuing of Safety certificates for international traffic and admission of vehicles for International traffic. 1. Interoperability of ERTMS Infrastructure: i. European Train Control System (ETCS) for train control ii. GSM-R for train Communication 2. The prominent agenda of ERTMS: i. The Integrated European Signalling System (INESS) was to define a core of standardised functions for future interlocking systems. ii. EULYNX is a project focussed o standardisation of elements of the Signalling system and interfaces to use elements that aim to reduce life-cycle costs. This enables the separation of field elements life cycle and manufacturer from the interlocking. eg: It will be possible to replace an interlocking system by a new type of a different manufacturer and reuse the field elements.

#DiscoverERTMSwhichTheUnsungHeroofRailwaySafety-3 #ERTMSCOMPONENTS During our previous post, we explored the concept of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS), its necessity within the railway industry, and its historical development. We can talk about ERTMS components however this post is describing ERTMS components in summary on today. I will explain in detail in the future. #ERTMS consists of two different main components. There are ETCS and GSM-R. #ETCS, European Train Control System consists of Trackside Component and Onboard Component. Onboard Components are consisting of · European Vital Computer, · Judridical Recording Unit, · Odometry Unit, · Train Interface Unit, · Balise Transmission Module, · Loop Transmission Module, · Kernel Module, · Driver Interface Machine · Euro Radio module (Radio Module uses on level-2) Trackside Components are consisting of · Eurobalises, · Lineside Electronic Units, · Euroloops · Radio Block Center (RBC uses on Level-2) #GSM-R, Global System for Mobile Communications – Railway is wireless communication system that provides communication between trains and the control center. ERTMS L2 ETCS European Train Control System and GSM-R Global System for Mobile Communications will be explained with all the details. First of all, I will explain to ERTMS levels and Modes. Then, I will come back to this subject. If you know more about this subject, you have a question or want to share your experience with us, please don’t forget to write a comment.

RTSA - The Railway Technical Society of Australasia QLD Chapter is hosting a presentation titled "How can virtual coupling change the future of railways" on the 25th of this month with speaker Egidio Quaglietta from Delft University of Technology. Event details: 📅 Date: 25 July 2024 🕕 Time: 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm 🌐 Venue: Online 🪙 Cost: $0 (members) $30 (non-members) 💻 Signup: https://lnkd.in/g-rsMhv6 The QLD chapter has planned a busy year full of technical events. Consider joining us to stay up-to date. Event Overview: Recent developments in rail signalling technology have led to the advanced concept of Virtual Coupling. Trains are envisaged to exchange real-time information with each other via a Vehicle-to-Vehicle radio communication layer to allow a much shorter separation and the formation of radio-linked train platoons. Such a concept would unleash the full capacity potential of existing rail networks and meet the ever-growing need of a customer-oriented rail service potentially leading the railways to a tremendous boost in both service efficiency and market competitiveness. Many are however the safety, technical and technological challenges which need to be addressed before Virtual Coupling could actually come to life. How can those challenges be tackled? And how could Virtual Coupling change the future of railways in terms of market potentials and service performances? Join us to find out more. #RTSA #Queensland #Rail #Signalling

🌍 CLEARSY is presenting a paper titled "Formal Validation and ERTMS Simulation" at the ‘Formal methods for DIStributed COmputing in future RAILway systems’ (Discorail) workshop being held in conjunction with the ISoLA 2024 conference (https://lnkd.in/dSDHDRun) in Heraklion (Creta) from 27 to 31 October 2024. More then 300 researchers and engineers are attending this event. ⬆ The presentation outlines some of the challenges and methods involved in the implementation and verification of the European Rail Traffic Management System, including formal modelling, automatic proof and model checking to build confidence in deployment, in addition to compliance verification based heavily on testing and simulation. ⭐ This year DisCoRail aims at repeating the success of the previous editions, stimulating the discussion between researchers and experts from industry and academia that have addressed these aspects in research and development projects. 🚝 The last years have seen the emergence of a potentially disruptive element in this discussion, namely the projected increasing adoption on Artificial Intelligence techniques, especially in those subsystems aimed to increase the degree of autonomy of train driving. 🤔 How formal methods can guarantee safety, availability, interoperability, cybersecurity is actually a challenge that needs to be attacked. #formalmethods #safety #railways #ERTMS
