“When things stood still like this and we in Asia hypnotised ourselves into the belief, that it could never by any possibility be otherwise, Japan rose from her dreams and in giant strides left centuries of inaction behind overtaking the present time in its foremost achievement, this has broken the spell under which we lay in torpor for ages taking it to be the normal condition of certain races living in certain geographical limits, we forgot that in Asia great kingdoms were founded, philosophy, science, arts and literature flourished and all the great religions of the world have their cradles.” —*Rabindranath Tagore* Written by Tagore about Japan’s victory against its European neighbour. 1905 arguably marked the peak of western expansion into Asia. Tagore, India’s first Nobel laureate, was a patriot who saw beyond nationalism. His words echoed the broader vision of freedom—one that was not just about political independence but about the liberation of the human spirit. In the early 20th century, Tagore's voice became a catalyst for the idea of independence across Asia, inspiring a generation to dream of freedom beyond borders. As we celebrate the 77th anniversary of India’s independence, let’s remember that true freedom is rooted in wisdom, compassion, and the courage to see the world with clear eyes. Wishing you a meaningful Independence Day. *First Water* #IndependenceDay2024 #IndiaAt77 #ProudlyIndian #ValueInvesting #FirstWaterCapital #EconomicGrowth #IndiaRising #InvestInIndia #NationBuilding #IndianEconomy

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚'𝐬 𝐓𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐲: 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 At a time when it's not allowed to talk about politics, I want to talk about what should concern us all. 🌍 In today's interconnected business landscape, China's oppression of Tibet carries significant implications beyond its borders. In the wake of 𝐓𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡, we confront a stark reality: according to the latest Freedom House report, Tibet's freedom rating has sunk to zero out of 100. This marks an 𝐚𝐥𝐥-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝟔𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧. Human rights violations in Tibet are rampant, with restrictions on religious freedom, cultural expression, and political dissent. Despite China's claims of liberation and development, Tibetans endure surveillance, censorship, arbitrary arrests, and torture. Here's why it should matter to you: 𝟏. 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭: Businesses must uphold ethical standards, and China's restrictions on Tibetan rights raise concerns about corporate responsibility and values alignment. UN experts are alarmed by the separation of 1 million more Tibetan children from families and forced assimilation at residential schools. 𝟐. 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬: Tibet's ecological significance means degradation from Chinese policies affects global sustainability and supply chain integrity. Stop China's water war in Tibet! 𝟑. 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐤𝐬: Tensions over Tibet could disrupt regional stability and business operations, highlighting the need for robust risk management strategies. As global businesses, we must recognize the broader implications. 𝐓𝐢𝐛𝐞𝐭'𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. In addressing these issues, businesses not only uphold ethical principles but also contribute to a more sustainable and stable global economy. 💙 ❤️ 💛 As a Tibetan, as a European and as a human being, I stand with Tibet. 🔃 SHARE THIS TO RAISE AWARENESS ON THE CAUSE #FreeTibet #BusinessEthics #CorporateResponsibility #Geopolitics #EnvironmentalSustainability #TibetOppression

India's rich cultural heritage, which emphasizes global interconnectedness, positions it uniquely to bridge divides and promote global peace. The interdependent nature of economic systems suggests that capitalism and socialism, in certain balanced combinations, can complement each other. However, for the US to ensure its long-term viability, it's crucial to move beyond past animosity and dismantle any internal forces hindering constructive progress. The world has evolved significantly since the tragedies of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and recognizing this evolution is essential for a more peaceful and prosperous future. #globaloneness

Today marks the beginning of South Asian Heritage Month. Starting on the 18th July and ending on the 17th of August, the month covers several independence days of South Asian Countries. This includes the anniversaries of the Indian Independence Act and the day the Radcliffe Line was published, which set out the border between India, West Pakistan and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The month covered between 18th July and 17th August also links up with monsoon month in South Asia (Saravan/Sawan) which is associated with renewal. So, how are you going to ‘renew’ your anti-racism work during South Asian Heritage Month? How much do you know about the dates mentioned above? A great place to start is our article which has some resources and links to help you on your way. https://lnkd.in/eReNwStD But, we urge you to go further than re-educating yourself during this month. Although this is important, anti-racism is about action and this is an opportunity to re-assess how far your anti-racism takes South Asian experiences into account.

The Germanic influence in India is less prominent compared to European colonial powers like Britain or France. Here's a glimpse of the Germanic presence in India: * Early Arrivals: German missionaries, scholars, and merchants arrived in India as early as the 16th and 17th centuries, but their influence remained limited. * Scholarly Contributions: German philologists and scholars made significant contributions to the study of Sanskrit and Indian culture in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Their work helped enhance the understanding of India's rich heritage. * Modern Relations: Today, Germany and India enjoy strong economic and cultural ties. Germany is a leading source of foreign investment in India, and there's growing collaboration in areas like science and technology.

🌍 In Australian Outlook this week, we reflect on Tibet’s struggle and explore its challenges and future paths. Dr. Sonika Gupta of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras reflects on the Tibetan movement's history and the future of the struggle as the Dalai Lama turns 89. Despite the exile and repression, the Tibetan cause continues with renewed challenges and opportunities. Key points: • The Tibetan exile community, sustained by 40 settlements in India, strives to preserve Tibetan culture, democracy, and Buddhism. • The Tibetan cause suffers from a lack of international political support, with China framing it as a human rights issue, sidelining self-determination. • Recent US legislation, such as the 2020 Tibet Policy Support Act and the 2024 Tibet Resolve Act, strengthens support for Tibetan autonomy and counters Chinese disinformation. • The next reincarnation of the Dalai Lama poses a critical challenge, with potential geopolitical implications beyond Tibet and China. 🔍 Read the full analysis and understand the dynamics of the Tibetan struggle https://lnkd.in/gv_UNrP3
