https://lnkd.in/g76uJ5WT Vasco da Gama: A Legacy of Discovery and Controversy Today, December 24th, marks 500 years since Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, passed away in Kochi. He is famous for discovering the sea route to India in 1498, opening up global trade. However, his legacy in India is complex and controversial. While da Gama's discovery helped create new trade routes between Europe and Asia, it also marked the beginning of colonial exploitation in India. Colonial powers like Portugal controlled local resources, imposed harsh labor, and exploited the land and people for their profit. In return, India saw violence, economic hardship, and cultural disruption. Although Portugal celebrates his achievements, Kochi barely remembers Gama today. The St. Francis Church, where he was once buried, only has a small sign marking his presence. This reflects the mixed feelings many Indians have about his role in history. For many, Vasco da Gama represents not just exploration but also the beginning of a painful era of colonization. As we reflect on his legacy today, we must recognize his contributions and the harm he caused during his time. #History #VascoDaGama #ColonialExploitation #Legacy #Trade #India #Portugal #ColonialHistory #Kochi #GlobalTrade #December24

🪷What touched me about India is the heart of the people—their kindness, generosity, connection to spirituality and family. After a few days in Goa, here’s what I’ve learned: 🌟 Go with the flow—make plans, but don’t cling to them. 🌟 Talk to locals—every conversation holds a hidden gem. 🌟 Everyone has a story worth listening to, from the beach sellers to bus drivers. 🌟 Spirituality here takes many forms, from modern interpretations to traditional practices. 🌟 Goa is a living example of peaceful coexistence: Russians, Israelis, Europeans, and Indians creating a harmonious community. Travel isn’t just about destinations—it’s about the lessons and the connections. And you, what have you learned from your travels? 🌊 #LeadershipLessons #CulturalDiversity #HumanConnection #TravelAndLearn #PersonalGrowth #GlobalCommunity #GoaExperience #TravelStories #SpiritualLeadership

The Power of Imagination and Experiences Unknowingly, I've applied the law of attraction to envision possible activities during my YATRA. It's remarkable how our thoughts and imaginations can manifest into similar situations, people, and experiences. Here are some key takeaways: 1. UNITY: I addressed over 500 people at the Global Gujarati Conclave (#FOGA USA) in Dallas. 2. INFLUENCE: I met with three ministers from the Government of Gujarat and discussed the YATRA and their potential involvement. 3. CULTURE: I attended over 12 live cultural events featuring artists like Bhanu Vora and Tripti Chhaya. 4. SECOND INNINGS: I connected with members of three different SENIOR CITIZENS clubs and enrolled them for our SECOND INNIGS PROGRAM. 5. PROFESSIONALS: I met over 500 professionals, including doctors, engineers, emergency workers, railroad workers, managers, marketers, truckers, and petrol station attendants, and invited them to visit India. Ever wondered how some European cities (esp the one I'm in) are so beautiful? Also, Happy Independence Day, India ❤️ What I'm about to tell you is something I learnt 2 years ago this month. I was sitting on the steps outside a palace in Brussels, with a group of 30 people from across the world. Our walking tour guide was an amazing Scottish man with red hair and a beer belly (he blamed Belgian beer for it). He said something that struck a chord: "You look around this palace and it's beautiful, right? Slaves from African countries were starved to build this. Countries were looted to have the money for the architecture you're praising." I'd never thought of this! 🤯 It took me back to the time when I saw the King of Mysore's sword and belongings in Edinburgh Castle. It made me feel like... it doesn't belong there; it belongs in *his* palace. So ever wondered how so many countries have such beautiful and 'rich' buildings? Because ours were looted and slaved. Still are (looted)... but that's a story for another day (iykyk) 😂 Happy Independence Day, India. Here's to working hard to change for what we deserve, as we always have.
