Have you seen masses of butterflies perching on muddy ground? Mud sipping or mud puddling is a behaviour that allows butterflies to fulfill their mineral nutritional requirement. The image shows Prosotas nora (Common line blue) mud sipping by a muddy roadside puddle in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. This behaviour is mostly observed during the months of December and January for this particular location and species, for some unknown reason. The mud sipping behaviour of some butterfly species is taken to Account when designing butterfly gardens. #Mudsipping #Butterflies

Don’t let this pretty in pink plant fool you… Himalayan balsam is a relative of the busy Lizzie, but reaches well over 2 metres in height. It is a major weed problem, especially on riverbanks and waste land, but can also be found in gardens. It grows rapidly and spreads quickly, smothering other vegetation as it goes! It’s large and brightly coloured flowers are usually in variable shades of purple to pale pink. With each plant producing over 800 seeds every year, this means huge potential growth. The key to control is to kill all plants before seeding occurs! If you think you may have a problem with Himalayan Balsam, give us a call and we can help. www.elcotenviro.com #invasiveplantremoval #swindonbusiness #himalayanbalsam

Experience the serene beauty of a vanilla plantation in northern Sambava, where lush green vines climb gracefully up towering trees. As you stroll through the plantation, you’ll witness the labor-intensive process of hand pollination that makes this exquisite spice so valuable. Vanilla flowers bloom for only a single day, requiring swift action. Skilled workers carefully transfer pollen from the male part of the flower (the anther) to the female part (the stigma) using a small stick or toothpick. This meticulous process ensures each flower has the chance to develop into a vanilla bean. Hand pollination, often called “marriage,” is a testament to the dedication and precision of vanilla farmers, preserving this centuries-old tradition that yields the world’s most beloved vanilla pods. Enjoy this walk through the vanilla fields, where tradition and nature harmonize to create one of the most cherished flavors on Earth. #VanillaPlantation #SambavaVanilla #HandPollination #VanillaFarming #SustainableAgriculture #VanillaJourney #NaturalVanilla #MadagascarVanilla #VanillaHarvest #AgriculturalTradition https://lnkd.in/eenMsJjb
