Good news. This extension is welcomed but will need us to do what we can to ensure our AGR fleet continues at least until we have HPC and SZC on the bars. Nuclear is a necessary form of energy production going forwards, the level of which is entirely misunderstood by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero which will leave us standing in the wake of others on new data centres and other power-hungry applications.

Delighted to hear this decision for extending the operational life of four of the AGRs (Heysham 1, Heysham 2 Hartlepool and Torness.) Worldgrid (part of Alten Group) Engineers are already supporting 2 of the 4 sites as well as a site under defueling preparations, to maintain and secure key OT systems which are needed during operational life as well as to support safe decommissioning. The Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario has approved Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) plan to proceed with the Project Definition Phase, the next step toward refurbishing Pickering Nuclear Generating Station’s “B” units to secure more power and create thousands of jobs across the province. Once refurbished, City of Pickering would produce more than 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity, equivalent to powering two million homes, to help meet increasing demand, driven by electrification and the province’s surging economic growth. In 2015, the David Besse plant in Ohio achieved a historic milestone, running at a 100.01% utilization ratio. This exceptional performance, equivalent to running at full capacity every day of the year, is a testament to its reliability and efficiency. With a 901 MW rated facility, the plant produced 7,893,891 MWh in 365 days, a remarkable feat that underscores its exceptional performance. The average rating for summer and winter is 901 MW; the nameplate rating is 925.2 MW, and the lowest rating is for summer, which is 894 MW. Energy Harbor Nuclear Generation LLC, a significant player in the energy industry, owns the David Besse plant. First energized in November 1977, the facility is a pivotal contributor to the USA grid, connected at 345 kV in the village of Ottawa, Ohio. What is equally impressive is that in 2017 and 2019, they ran at 99%. Nuclear plants have something that other industries don’t: triple redundancy. BGEN SECURES £84 MILLION CONTRACT FOR HINKLEY POINT C UK engineering firm BGEN Ltd has been awarded an £84 million contract by GE Steam Power Systems to provide electrical and instrumentation solutions for the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station in Somerset. The contract includes the design, supply, and installation of packages for the turbine halls of Unit 1 and Unit 2, which will house two of the world's largest Arabelle steam turbines, each capable of producing 1,770 MW of electrical power. The Ontario government has announced the completion of Unit 1 at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station five months ahead of schedule. Refurbishing and returning Unit 1 to service provides 875 megawatts (MW) of clean power for the next 30-plus years, enough to power 875,000 homes. “Ontario needs more electricity – 75 per cent more by 2050 – to power new homes, historic new investments and an electrifying economy,” said Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification. “Delivering this massive clean energy project five months ahead of schedule is a testament to the incredible knowledge and skill of Ontario workers and positions us for success as we build out our plan to meet the soaring energy demand over the next 25 years.” https://lnkd.in/gxG9pEv7
