What started as a design competition became a profound exploration of how we can reimagine our built environment. Key Moments: • Winning the Arcadis GEC Philippines Architecture & Urbanism Retail Mall Concept Design Competition was more than a professional milestone. My submission, "Retelling PH Retail Culture: Integrating Urban Waterfront Revitalization into a Lifestyle Center Concept," was a love letter to sustainable urban development that reimagines how Filipino spaces can serve communities. • Speaking at the Ateneo Economics Association's KamalAEAn 2024 event allowed me to bridge architecture, economics, and sustainability. We dove deep into megaproject challenges, discussing adaptive reuse, sustainability considerations, and how the AEC industry can drive meaningful change. • My first year at Arcadis has been a masterclass in global sustainability - transforming from a traditional architect to a Global Sustainability Analyst who sees design as a tool for planetary healing. In December, the first CIRCO Track kicked off at Business Environment Council (BEC), marking the launch of a new CIRCO Hub in Hong Kong. Companies from various sectors, such as real estate, architecture, and construction, now have the opportunity to embrace the circular economy together at the Hub. ♻️ Under the guidance of our International Program Manager Pieter van Os and CIRCO trainer Jeannette Levels-Vermeer, participants gained insights into circular business models, product redesigns, and sustainable services. Our first Abodo Wood Ltd Designing for a Better Tomorrow Webinar of the year is in the books, and all I can say is, wow! What a way to kick off 2025. With 341 registrants, 211 attendees, and a chat room buzzing with over 400 engagements, this was more than just a webinar—it was a conversation that truly connected architects and designers across the globe. A huge thank you to Sidonie Immler, Alice Atiola, Charlotte Wark Russwood, Charlie Law, Lewis Marshall, and Will Arnold for leading such an engaging and thought-provoking session. From material decarbonisation to product circularity, these big ideas were made tangible, actionable, and inspiring—something we all need more of in the industry. 🌟An exciting day at #SustainablePlaces 2024 as #NebulaB4P led two impactful workshops: 🔄Unlocking the Renovation Wave Workshop This Nebula-led workshop showcased seven EU projects, focusing on circularity, inclusiveness, and aesthetics. Excited to see Junckers as part of the TIMBERHAUS project! The construction sector is responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions, yet the adoption of sustainable wood solutions remains slow. TIMBERHAUS addresses this challenge by unlocking the potential of, for example, under-utilized hardwood species and post-consumer wood, creating innovative, high-performance products for a more circular and sustainable future. At Junckers, responsible wood use has been central to our DNA since 1930, and I’m confident that under Alexander’s leadership, Junckers will make a strong contribution to this important collaboration.
