The works to repair the #FrejusRailway, the main railway border crossing between #France and #Italy, may need more time than previously expected. Emmanuel Manier, Director of the Southeast Engineering Zone for SNCF Réseau, recently said that it might be necessary to demolish and completely rebuild the #Frejus rail tunnel. This process, he said, would take at least 18 months of work, which means there won’t be a reopening before at least mid-2025. #railfreight #railfreightnews #railcargonews

Transatlantic Tunnel: 54 Minutes To Travel From London to New York - A proposed mega-project that would bring the UK and the US closer together via a 3,100-mile (5,000 km) tunnel would cost an eye-watering $18 trillion, which is just one of the reasons it is unlikely to go ahead. The Transatlantic Tunnel is an idea that has existed for more than a century. It is pretty much exactly what it sounds like a tunnel under the Atlantic Ocean connecting the UK and North America. Various ideas for how the Transatlantic Tunnel would work have been proposed - with some suggesting it would be entirely under the seabed, a tube above the seabed or a combination of the two. Most agree, however, that the tunnel - like the much shorter Channel Tunnel - would be used by trains rather than having vehicles driving through it, a journey likely to take several days and which would require additional infrastructure to be built. One proposal for the tunnel involved a Vactrain, a theoretical type of maglev train that would travel in something approaching a near-vacuum. The Vactrains could travel up to 5,000mph, potentially turning the journey between London and New York City into a 54-minute commute. Aside from Vactrains, jet propulsion has also been proposed to power the trains through the potential tunnel. After reaching top speed, the trains would need 18 minutes to slow down and come to a complete stop. Governments in London or Washington, D.C., are not currently considering serious proposals to make this a reality, and it would likely be borderline impossible with existing technology. 🗞 MORE TO FOLLOW..... 🌟 Want to be Kept in the Loop?
