I've seen a few of these scams end up in my personal email box. People actually find real names of employees that work at a company and then trying to set up an interview. Several asked to schedule an interview on Calendly, but use my personal Facebook to sign-in. Always the email URL was off. To everyone on the job hunt, here are some good tips to protect yourself from scams.

Remember the common rules of identifying phishing. They will always try to rush you into a decision. This is to try to keep you from having time to think and notice the irregularities. Always check the senders actual email address versus the displayed name. It is easy to make the displayed name appear legitimate. Verify the email domain is correctly spelled, scams are usually close to the real one but just a little off. If you ever feel like the situation seems off, research the company and reach out to them directly to verify if the offer is legit. Never click on any links provided in a suspect email.

I saw a post from a "white collar recruitment specialist" the other day telling people to make sure that their references are up to date on their CV as a hot tip for job seekers. BS. They shouldn't be on there in the first place. Take them off. No reputable business or agency should be calling your references without your consent first. Here is some good advice you can actually use: If you are a "white collar worker" A detailed reference check should take 10-20 minutes so make sure your reference is prepared with some time windows for the call and tell them who will be calling, from where and for what position and then reconfirm they are happy to provide a reference.

As a recruitment professional at Signature Personnel Ltd, I sometimes feel that we are judged unfairly at best as a necessary evil, and at worst as leeches with no value, only a commitment to make a quick profit and move on. I’ll be honest, I had that exact perception of recruitment companies myself based on my own experiences as a young lad, working different jobs looking for a career path. I seen inductions of 30 candidates being ushered around like cattle to fill just 2 positions, usually that same day with no guarantee of future work or guidance about the actual job they were expected to do. This is partly why we operate differently. We want to work with companies who want to fill long-term positions with the right people, working with us openly and with loyalty while valuing our commitment to you and the success of our relationship but also looking out for the interests of the people completing the work. The methodical business model we adopt is working with every client that gives us this level of trust and understanding. The other half of why we operate with a genuine care for our candidates as well as our clients, is because we’re real people and we treat others as people too... Not numbers, KPI’s, or commission, just people looking to make a living. That being said, there are many other recruitment companies doing some great things, supporting their candidates and improving the reputation of the industry in the process and as a small company we use these as inspiration and motivation, so we're not wanting to do those an injustice. Since joining the industry myself, I have also realised that there are several moving parts when recruiting and that many of the negative criticism directed at the recruiter is a result of unrealistic expectations or non-engagement from the start. Please give your agency the opportunity to meet your needs by communicating those needs clearly... After all, we're only as good as the person | job specification and company information you provide us with.
