Welcome back to our Energy series, Science vs. Fiction. Here's the verdict from our last challenge: Fiction! The exact location of chemical injection is vitally important. The correct decision can only be made after a thorough knowledge of the pathways taken by produced fluids, ideally with a “walk through”. This is particularly important when multiple wells are comingled and fed to a central processing center with a separator, compressor, gas contact tower, etc. It is certainly possible for a very effective chemical, known to be so from multiple field applications and lab studies, to completely fail if not injected in the optimal part of the production facility. Things are looking bright in #touchtech news for Engine Ventures portfolio company Syzygy Plasmonics as they complete qualification testing for the World’s first Light-Powered industrial ammonia cracker. Their Rigel™ reactor cell, the first-of-its-kind 200 kg/d light-powered ammonia splitter passes 1,500 hours of testing with flying colors! As the industry looks for lower-carbon energy carriers in energy-importing regions like Asia and Central Europe, many are turning to low-carbon ammonia as a solution because it contains more #hydrogen by volume than even liquid H2. For hydrogen to become a meaningful part of the energy transition, consumers need a way to convert that #ammonia to hydrogen. Enter Syzygy. “We’re ready to deliver 5-ton-per-day projects today. In 2025, we’ll be ready for 10-ton installations, and then for 100-ton projects in late 2026,” says Syzygy CEO Trevor Best. The #project MicroBioCHP (#HorizonEurope) has reached its midpoint and the Consortium of partners met in Austria, at the coordinator BIOS BIOENERGIESYSTEME GmbH. During the meeting, the preliminary results of the #gasification unit were discussed and the different components of the #prototype were shown. In the coming months, the #gasifier and the Solid Oxide Fuel Cells will be installed, testing the entire system. MicroBioCHP aims at the simultaneous production of #heat and #electricity to be implemented in a residential building: a very interesting and cost-effective #technology for efficient #energy generation. Hysytech's role will focus on process integration between the gasifier and the modules, developing a solid filter operating at high temperature, a removal reactor and two heat exchangers.
