In #rice cultivation, being colorful is not always beneficial, as seen in the case of false smut disease, which causes vibrant, orange-yellow balls to form on rice grains. These balls, which are spore masses from the fungal pathogen Ustilaginoidea virens, may seem harmless or even attractive, but they actually signal a harmful infection. False smut disease not only reduces grain yield but also affects grain quality, making it unsuitable for consumption and impacting market value. The disease’s spores can spread easily, further infecting nearby crops and amplifying potential yield losses. Therefore, this “colorful” appearance, while eye-catching, is deceptive and ultimately detrimental to rice health and productivity.

A farmer fell ill in the village. As a courtesy of WSF, we brought our own tractor and tilled his land. That farmer will plant crops that are high in protein such as chickpeas and lentils. In the word of Prof. Madhukar Pai who published a paper in the Lancet Journal, “Food is like a vaccine for TB”. Majority of the people who are infected with TB do not have proper diets to help combat this disease. Please read more about this in the Lancet Journal. #tuberculosis #onehealth #food
