Asahi Group Holdings and Monash University have been fostering a unique blend of industry-academia collaboration. We're proud of our Asahi Study Grant, established in 2023, that aims to provide students at the university's Japan Studies Department with a place to study in Japan and deepen their interest in Japanese history, culture, and working in Japan. Through this initiative, we hope to encourage students to take an interest in the Asahi Group and deepen their knowledge of it. 🌍🎓 We recently had the pleasure of welcoming five bright minds from Monash's Japanese Studies program to Japan. They immersed themselves into the Asahi world, exploring our philosophy, brands, and operations. "Experience is the teacher of all things" - a timeless insight from Julius Caesar that deeply resonates in our personal and professional lives. Thanks to Pei Wen Wong's initiative to bridge the gap between academia and industry, I recently had the opportunity to share my journey with the bright minds at Nanyang Technological University Singapore. This experience reminded me of the profound impact of hands-on experience on learning and growth. While textbooks and lectures lay the groundwork, the challenges we face, the mistakes we make, and the successes we celebrate in the real world truly shape us. Theoretical knowledge is important, but practical experience is the vessel that navigates us through the unpredictable seas of our careers. I am curious to hear from you all - How has real-world experience complemented your theoretical knowledge? Have there been moments where hands-on involvement provided insights that books could not? Share your stories in the comments below. Let's inspire each other by showcasing how stepping out of our comfort zones and engaging with the world directly has fueled our learning and growth. #LearningByDoing #RealWorldEducation #ExperienceMatters #NTU #IndustryAcademia #ntu #creative #creativity BBDO Worldwide BBDO Asia BBDO Singapore

Yesterday, I attended a sharing organized by the NUS Centre for Future-ready Graduates on the inner workings of Public Relations (PR) and what entails a competent PR practitioner. I had the honor of listening to the wealth of experience and profound expertise that both Koh Juat Muay 许月妹, AMIPRS, and Magel Ordoñez have had in their respective careers. As an aspiring Media practitioner, I was thoroughly inspired by the way they articulated themselves, not only confidently sharing their strengths but acknowledging the weaknesses that they have since surpassed. In fact, their sharing reminded me of the time my mum, Laura Ratnam and I attended the Year End Fundraising Bazaar organized by Women at Amazon to raise funds for the beneficiaries at Daughters Of Tomorrow - I shared about my mum's home-based business, Feather Mums, and why empowering disadvantaged women in society means a lot to the both of us. Looking back, certainly, there were areas that I could have improved on in terms of my public speaking (but I deserve to give myself a pat on the shoulder given that it was my first wide-scale public sharing haha)! After giving yesterday's sharing some thought, I have since realized that effective communication transcends language. It is through the simplest gestures, non-verbal cues, and mannerisms that allow one to forge lasting relations with others! Oh, and as Koh Juat Muay 许月妹, AMIPRS mentioned "Always dress the part"... this certainly resonates with me given my commitment to self-expression through fashion. #publicrelations #communications #publicspeaking
Thank you Kum-Hoong KONG for the invitation to share my work journey with the students at the National University of Singapore. My pleasure to join Magel Ordoñez for this conversation. PR is a fulfilling career. Happy to see the team from RICE. I took pictures of my old haunt. The Central Library was above a canteen where I drank copious amounts of kopi to stay awake. The library was ironically, a place to nap. I wish for all the best life and life’s experience can offer the students as they navigate their own career journey. Three things I learned from my Semester Exchange Experience in Malaysia 1. Support for Local Goods One of the key drivers of Malaysia's economic growth, in my observation, is the strong support for local products by the middle-class population. Malaysians often prefer locally made goods over imported ones, even when the local options are more expensive. For instance, while an internationally popular soda might cost around RM 2.5-3.5, many people opt for fresh juice or their favorite "Milo ice," which can cost RM 8-15 and RM 5-7, respectively. 2. Appreciation for What We Have Before my exchange, much like other students around me, I often found myself underestimating my university, my teachers, and even my own English-speaking skills. I had this notion that universities abroad were flawless and that I’d struggle to communicate in English all the time, fearing that people might judge my accent as a Pakistani. However, shortly after attending the orientation at my exchange university, I realized how mistaken I was. I found that our communication skills, people management abilities, and the dedication of our teachers back home are far better than I had thought. Constantly criticizing what we have—whether it's our university or our nation—only leads to underappreciation and ungratefulness. I’m grateful that my five months abroad gave me a much-needed perspective shift. 3. The Quality of Friendships Time doesn't necessarily define the depth of friendships. I've had friendships that lasted more than half a decade but never reached the level of connection I formed with friends I made in just a couple of months during my exchange. This experience has left me incredibly grateful for the people in my life, especially those who shed tears as we hugged goodbye. #semesterexchangeprogram #studyinginmalaysia #IoBM #UPM
