Let’s talk about Food Security 🥦🫐🍓 1 in 5 kids experience food insecurity at home. School breaks can be a time of uncertainty and stress for some families. This Spring Break, over 8000 meals will be distributed across seven school sites. KidSafe aims to fill the gaps by providing daily nutritious meals, take-home groceries, and unlimited snacks. Food security forms one of the core focuses of our programming. We believe every child deserves the nourishment and opportunities they need so they can thrive. Important Update for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) This week only, the Cloudland Elementary School site will distribute meals on Friday, 07/05, instead of Thursday, to accommodate the July 4th holiday. Additionally, please note a policy update: Now, only parents or guardians need to be present to pick up meals. This change does not extend to other family members outside of designated parents/guardians. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation! #SummerFoodService #FTHRA #CommunitySupport #HolidaySchedule #ImportantUpdate

It's Friday Food Program Fact Day! If you have young children throughout the day and schoolagers who only attend after school, can the whole grain-rich item be provided earlier in the day (breakfast, AM snack, or lunch)? The answer is YES. However, it’s a best practice is to plan and serve a whole grain-rich item at the meal or snack where the most children are in care. #FoodProgramFacts #CACFP #ProvidersChoice #WholeGrain-Rich

Broken School Meals: It's Not the Staff, It's the System #SchoolMeals #FoodJustice #Policy I completely understand the anger of parents about this- however, I'd also defend to the last breath the heroes working in our school kitchens every day. The current state of school meals in England mirrors the worrying trend of the domestic energy market a few years ago. A race to the bottom in bidding by a limited number of providers has created an unsustainable system. Rising food, energy, and labour costs expose the fundamental flaw in the business model. The consequence? Schools facing difficulties securing new contracts, and ultimately, the burden falls on the most vulnerable: our children. This is not a reflection on the dedication of underpaid kitchen staff. They are heroes working within a broken system. The answer lies in a proven, successful approach: Universal Free School Meals. Look beyond our borders: London, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Finland, Brazil, and Rwanda have all implemented this model. The benefits are undeniable: Improved child health and well-being Reduced social inequalities Economies of scale leading to greater cost-effectiveness The true cost of inaction is evident in the concerning images shared by Mr. Ashley. It's time to prioritize our children's well-being. Let's move towards a sustainable and equitable solution: Universal Free School Meals. https://lnkd.in/edMhkBvx

🌱 Food education is essential for our future 🌱 I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done at Chefs in Schools. Bringing passionate chefs into school kitchens doesn't just transform the meals; it sparks curiosity and improves the overall well-being of students. With Riverford Organic Farmers support, we’re expanding this impact to the Southwest, aiming to educate 40,000 more children about healthy, fresh food. This isn't just about better school lunches; it’s about food as education, as empowerment, as change. 🚀

The biggest school meal program in the United States is the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), which was created under President Harry S. Truman in 1946. Food insecurity has risen in recent years, so having this program is important. However, for children with ARFID the school cafeteria can be a scary place. Will there be something for the child with ARFID to eat? Will the kid next to them eat food with a strong smell? Will my friends tease me about the food I bring? Will the child be able to eat in front of peers? #arfid #arfidawareness #arfidsupport #eatingdisorders #eatingdisordersupport #youarenotalone #arfidcircle #schoolcafeteria #schoolanxiety

School food programs offer a way to build multiple connections and relationships where people live. Schools are fluid, both in the ways they are administered but also in the way populations move through them, including changing administrative officials, students and families. What stays relatively stable is school infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gf8DvWnj
