US firm in A$375m swoop for Base Resources’ Toliara US-based uranium and critical minerals producer Energy Fuels is making an A$375m takeover bid for ASX-listed Base Resources which owns the Kwale heavy mineral sands mine in Kenya and is looking to develop the Toliara heavy mineral sands project in Madagascar. The bid is at a 188% premium to Base Resources closing price on the ASX of A$0.105 on April 19 and is being recommended by the Base Resources board with all directors owning shares indicating they will vote in favour. LBMA’s Head of Responsible Sourcing, Alan Martin, met with a high-level delegation from Peru at the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) annual conference in Toronto in early March. Alan informed Minister of Energy and Mines, Rómulo Mucho, on the objectives and goals of LBMA’s ASM Initiative, including the role intermediate processors and aggregators can play in supporting efforts to formalise the sector and undertake due diligence on Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) suppliers. Peru is one of seven ASM-producing countries that LBMA has identified as offering a positive regulatory environment, significant ASM production, engaged government and strong potential for engagement with GDL Refiners. Minister Mucho extended a personal invitation to LBMA to visit Peru later in 2024 to further advance discussions with the broad spectrum of government and industry actors operating in the ASM sector. Forte Minerals Corp. (CSE:CUAU, OTCQB:FOMNF) announced that it has finalized the acquisition of the Alto Ruri high sulphidation epithermal gold prospect and the Cerro Quillo porphyry #gold-#copper-#molybdenum prospect located in Perú from its strategic partner Globetrotters Resource Group. The company said the concessions were transferred to its Peruvian subsidiary Cordillera Resources Perú S.A.C., in exchange for a one-time cash payment of US$25,000. It noted that both prospects are located on a contiguous 4700-hectare block of concessions initially acquired by Globetrotters from Compañía Minera Ares S.A.C. in exchange for a 1% net smelter returns royalty interest. Aeris Resources Limited (ASX:AIS, OTC:ARSRF), a mid-tier base and precious metals producer in Australia, has forecast group copper-equivalent production of 40,000 to 48,000 tonnes during FY25, in line with the FY24 copper-equivalent production of 42,000 tonnes. Within this guidance is 27,000 to 32,000 tonnes of #copper, 50,000 to 62,000 ounces of #gold and 200,000 to 240,000 ounces of #silver, compared to the FY24 production of 27,200 tonnes of copper, 55,300 ounces of gold and 240,400 ounces of silver. The Tritton Copper Operations in central New South Wales is expected to produce 21,000 to 25,000 tonnes of copper and the Cracow Gold Project in Queensland is expected to produce 40,000 to 49,000 ounces of gold. Ilala Metals Ltd is set to become the newest #copper and #uranium explorer on the #ASX, having opened an initial public offering (IPO) to raise $5 million in additional funding, with capacity for up to $8 million should the #IPO be oversubscribed. The company plans to list under code IL1, with the IPO scheduled to end in late August. This fresh capital will support exploration and drilling at its Botswanan assets, specifically the Serule Uranium Project and Central Copper Project (CCP) in the Kalahari Copper Belt. “We are delighted that our IPO to raise a minimum of $5 million has now opened,” Ilala Metals chair Dr Eric Lilford said. “The Serule Project, whilst in early stages, has huge potential, being probably the most sought-after uranium project in Botswana now.” The price of uranium has risen 190% since January 2020, reaching its highest point since 2007 in February this year at US$81.32 per pound. Copper has also risen 43% since the beginning of 2020, reaching an all-time high of US$5.20 per pound in May.
