Why join professional organizations and attend conferences? I was listening to “The 7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens” by Sean Covey, which I had recommended to my daughter. Sean mentions the old adage about the need to sharpen your axe when cutting wood. There is a story that goes along with it, but this idea of keeping one’s axe sharp is ancient wisdom. “If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.” ECCL 10:10 NJV. “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Prov. 27:17 NJV. The iron or axe of today is a our skillset, talent, or mental abilities. When I join organizations like the National Academy of Forensic Engineers (National Academy of Forensic Engineers - NAFE), the National Council for Structural Engineers Associations (Florida Structural Engineers Association), The National Society of Professional Engineers (National Society of Professional Engineers), The American Society of Civil Engineers (American Society of Civil Engineers), and the many other organizations to which I belong, I get the tools to sharpen my axe. I can mentor and be mentored by professionals in my field. I have access to hundreds of years of experience and educational opportunities that sharpen my axe. I also get to give back to my professional community and network with the best of the best. In my opinion, there is no better way to keep your axe sharp than to join and be active in professional organizations like NAFE, NCSEA, NSPE, ASCE, and the numerous professional organizations of your specific field of expertise. #NAFE #AreteForensics #professionaldevelopment #professionalgrowth #structuralengineering #civilengineering #engineering #forensicengineering #networking #mechanicalengineering #electricalengineers

The Power of Passion and Commitment | Leadership in Service Excellence and Value Creation | Executive MBA | Associate Director | Team Leader | Structural Engineering | AECOM | CPEng Practice Area Assessor | ENZ
Humbled and honoured to be elected as #Fellow #Member of The Institution of Structural Engineers (#IStructE). I am very #grateful to my main and #longtime #supporters Mr. Abhijeet Kulkarni and Mr. Abhijit Bhoite – these two #gentlemen are #genuine #professionals who challenged and guided me with my journey right from the start as graduate member up to becoming a fellow member of our highly #regarded institution. This is also without the continued support of my #family, #friends, #colleagues, #team and #managers. Through and through I am a lifelong #learner and #passionate of #continuing #professional #development to raise the bar of knowledge and skills in #structural #engineering, #management, and #leadership. I look forward to continuously embrace the #legacy and #traditions which are grounded on the principles and #high #standard of professionalism and #ethical #conduct. It is obvious that our wider #society and our #motherly #earth are demanding for a #new #breed of #professional #engineers who are equipped with #new #knowledge and #skills to bring #innovative #ideas and #solutions to face the speedy and increasingly #complex and #conflicting problems of our #built #environment. My current role at #AECOM provides me the #opportunity to #develop and #leverage my team #capability not only technically but also in the non-technical aspects of our chosen profession.
