This week is Black Maternal Health Week, and it's crucial that we shed light on why this topic is so important. Black maternal health is a critical issue because Black women in the US are disproportionately affected by maternal mortality rates compared to their white counterparts. This disparity highlights systemic issues within our healthcare system that need to be addressed urgently. Let's use this opportunity to educate ourselves and others on the importance of advocating for better healthcare outcomes for Black mothers. Together, we can work towards creating a more equitable and just society. #blackmaternalhealth #blackmaternalhealthweek #healthequity

Body and Soul Sovereignty United (Bass United) is committed to addressing disparities in health outcomes negatively impacting Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color (BIWOC), especially as it relates to maternal and infant mortality rates. Health disparities may influence whether a woman of color lives or dies during pregnancy or birth, especially if the conditions or situations are not addressed right away. Bass United focuses on the importance of relationships between healthcare providers and women, helping them to understand each other and to communicate better with one another. Doing so empowers women to have a say in their pregnancy and birth. Studies have shown if the relationships in healthcare are not open and positive, due to implicit bias, discrimination, abuse, or neglect, women will not return for continued care. It creates a situation called “lack of access” to healthcare which can be a major barrier negatively impacting short and long-term health with the potential of maternal death for women and babies. We plan to improve these relationships, being guided by the Indigenous Worldview which is all about humanity, relationships, beauty, and love. Believe it or not, our relationships with the land, the sky, the animals, and plants also impact our health so they are important too, especially for Mothers and babies. The principles of Indigenous knowledge can benefit all of humanity! What better way is there to live our lives, than being and staying healthy, loving each other and our children, and always walking in beauty? We ask for our community to help. Even small contributions will work toward achieving our goals because if every member of this community gives, it creates a huge impact over time. As a member of this community, I ask that you please help because we depend on you. We welcome you to click on the picture below, learn more about what we are doing, and donate… https://lnkd.in/ewvTxG5X

Aging & End of Life Planning has impacts on ALL GENERATIONS of your family. 👪 If Grandma doesn’t have a plan and ends up needing familial support, Mom is likely going to be the one to step in. Then SHE’S going to be stressed out and exhausted, and it’s going to affect her ability to plan for HER future. It ripples out 🌊 #AgingandEndofLifePlanning #LegacyPlanning #AgingPlanning #EndofLifePlanning #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning
🥪❓ Are you part of a sandwich generation? Gen X women are caught right between two generations that are both in need of care: our children on the one hand, and our aging parents on the other. 👶👋🧓 🌊 Earlier this week, we posted about the caregiving crisis that’s facing women. As our population gets older, the sandwich generation is going to be hit the worst: they’ll be tasked with caring for young children AND older adults, all while demands on our caregiving systems will be at a record high. 📈 WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! Right now, it’s not too late to plan ahead. In this blog post, our Founder & CEO Mallory McGrath talks more about what needs to be done 👇 https://lnkd.in/gcVfdE78 #AgingandEndOfLifePlanning #LegacyPlanning #AgingPlanning #EndOfLifePlanning #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning

🤲 Imagine a place where caregivers are taken care of. Where someone looks after their children while caregivers exercise, do therapy or laundry, or simply catch a breath. 🏙️This idea is at the heart of Care Blocks, a pioneering initiative in the city of Bogotá, where 1.2 million women are engaged exclusively in unpaid care work. Those caregiving expectations – which mostly fall on women’s shoulders – mean many don’t finish formal education. 📖In this year’s edition of #EarlyChildhoodMatters, Diana Rodríguez Franco, former Secretary for Women’s Affairs (Secretaría Distrital de la Mujer) in the City Government of Bogotá, shares how the ambitious Care Blocks project has already served 400,000 women and families. 🌟For Rodríguez Franco, Care Blocks is about much more than giving caregivers time off. It’s recognition as a city of those who care for us, particularly women. And it’s having a profound impact on women’s lives by offering education, respite, and income-generating services. 🔗 Read Irene Caselli’s full interview with Diana Rodríguez Franco to discover more about Care Blocks and how it’s having a direct impact on both caregivers and children. bit.ly/ECM2023-15 #ECM2023 #EarlyChildhoodMatters #EarlyYears #ChildDevelopment #ECD #PeopleBeforeParents Andrea Torres Sansotta Rushda Majeed Victoria Chavez Hannah Rothschild Patricia Núñez

"No stone is left unturned. What we're trying to say to the greater world is: this is actually what #HealthCare is all about for those who lack resources. It has to be holistic. It has to be that you take into account the basics such as transportation, food, personal safety, housing, things like diapers, etc. And it’s because people who are experiencing poverty, hunger, #Homelessness, pregnancy, isolation, loneliness, lack of resources, language barriers – they need this level of support and resources because not having them does affect their #Health. Addressing the health of the mom during and after pregnancy affects the health of her baby. This is why the Bridges to Moms program is one that looks at the whole health of women." –Dr. Roseanna Means, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Bridges to Moms Have you signed up for our newsletter yet? This month's feature, slated to go out this week, will feature Dr. Roseanna Means, attending physician in the Division of Women’s Health and Founder of Bridges to Moms, a philanthropically supported program at BWH that aims to bridge the multiple gaps in health care and social needs for pregnant women facing homelessness or housing insecurity. In conversation, Dr. Means shares with us what pregnancy care looked like for women in Boston prior to BTM, her lessons learned from eight years of programming, and what systemic changes are still needed to make birth equity a reality for all, including those facing homelessness or housing insecurity. As women age, they often face unique challenges, particularly if they've devoted much of their lives to raising children. Today, on Mother's Day, let's take a moment to acknowledge the remarkable women who have shouldered the responsibilities of motherhood and are now navigating the complexities of aging. From managing their own health concerns to adjusting to an empty nest, mothers encounter a range of emotional and practical challenges as they grow older. Balancing caregiving responsibilities for their own parents while also prioritizing their well-being can be especially daunting. As we honor and celebrate mothers today, let's also recognize the need for continued support and resources to address the specific needs of aging mothers. Whether it's access to healthcare, social connections, or assistance with daily tasks, let's ensure that mothers receive the care and attention they deserve in every stage of life. #MothersDay #AgingParents #CaregivingChallenges #interimhealthcarestl

First Nations women face almost twice the risk of stillbirth or “sorry business babies” compared to non-First Nations women in Australia. Researchers from the Mater Research based Stillbirth CRE describe how much of this inequity can be linked to the ongoing impact of colonisation on First Nations women and birthing. Here's how: ⚫ Ongoing intergenerational trauma ⚫ Maternity services aren’t designed for First Nations women ⚫ Resources aren’t designed for First Nations women ⚫ Racism and discrimination in maternity services ⚫ Providers don’t understand First Nations health. By developing culturally adapted resources and providing education and training, the Stillbirth CRE is working to help eliminate racial disparities in stillbirth rates in Australia.
