This weekend was the Kentucky Derby, and on the historic 150th running of this race, Mystik Dan delivered a breath-taking win, beating second place Sierra Leone and third place Forever Young in the first three horse photo finish since 1947 ended in a 3-horse photo finish. This year's race marks a unique milestone with the 150th running of the Derby — the first race took place back in 1875. There are lots of interesting facts about the Derby, with the drink of the race is the Mint Julep, made with Woodford Reserve as the official bourbon for the race. There wasn’t an official trophy for the race for almost 50 years, the first race was in 1875 and the trophy was created in 1924. To this day the Kentucky Derby trophy is one of the only solid gold trophies in the United States. The fastest Kentucky Derby was run by Secretariat in 1973 (1:59.40). The slowest winning time was run by Kingman in 1891 (2:52.25 for the mile and a half). There have been three fillies to win the race. I love the Kentucky Derby not only because it’s exciting, but also because it always provides important leadership lessons. Here are a few from the 2024 race: You can win against all odds. You just never know. You can’t stop until the end. This was an exciting race to watch, and even more interesting doing research on the history of the Derby as well as the winner. If you have something interesting to add to the lore of the Kentucky Derby, drop it in the chat. Don’t forget to like, comment, and follow so you don’t miss future content. What costs an organisation absolutely nothing but is one of the most valuable assets it can have? Organisational culture and behaviours. This is my 3rd week at Rugby Borough WFC, and I've been impressed by the culture and duty of care shown by both our staff and players. There's much work to be done, as is elite sports, but having a good organisational culture, and that consistency of staff is half the battle won. #OrganisationalCulture #Values #Teamwork #MentalHealthAtWork

Guess what I spotted at Dunedin airport? The Black Jersey What does this Jersey mean? It depends who you ask I imagine To teams that play the All Blacks they probably know that they’re going to be in for a battle To NZ rugby players it’s what most aspire to become, to put that black jersey on or perhaps to create a legacy or to honour that legacy of all the greats that played before them and leave it in a better place once they have moved on. The one thing that everyone can learn from is the standards that the All Blacks set is a continual drive for excellence and that winning is everything. In an age where participation is rewarded without the pressure to get a result, have we become to soft and accepting of “ AVERAGE or PARTICIPATION MEDALS?” You either create a focus on winning or a focus on participation. Which one do you prefer? Is the focus on winning to outdated? Be great to get your comments. Do you agree? #sales #salestraining #salestrainer

*EHS & Football* A big part of managing #ehs is making sure you have the right team. You need reliable "players" who you can count on to show up, follow your lead on what your site needs and perform when the time comes for service. Heritage is known for treating each customer as an individual site with individual needs. If you feel like just another number with your current provider I'd be happy to discuss. Eagles season is over. Who are you supporting to take home the W this year? #wastemanagement #environment #hazardouswaste #hazardousmaterials

The New Zealand All Blacks rugby team is the most successful sporting franchise in history. Why? It’s because they have established a team-first ethos that prioritises cultural alignment, shared values, and character over raw talent. In short, no matter how good you are, no one person is bigger than the team. Their 'No Dickheads' policy ensures they only select individuals who fit their non-negotiable principle of 'Whanau' - meaning 'our family, our friends, our tribe. You need the right culture to be successful, so don’t be a Dickhead and just as importantly, don’t hire a Dickhead! #teamculture #values #sharedvalues #success

It's the jersey, the club, the family and history... All of these things are former New Zeland player Sean Fitzpatrick's comments on playing rugby. Demonstrating dedication and passion for the game. "When you pull on that jersey, you're not just playing for a rugby club, you're playing for a family and a history that goes back over a century." In my opinion the words empahise the importance of teamwork, love of the job, the perseverance and camaraderie that are important to Sean. Do you know what is important to the individuals in your team, what makes them tick or where their boundaries are drawn? If you can't answer yes, maybe consider asking them at your next one - to - one with them. #managementdevelopment #managementtips #managementskills
