Celebrating 3 years IHM - A Sunday Reflection Three years ago, I made one of the riskiest careers moves of my life by accepting a six-month employment contract with IHM , leaving behind a secure three-year contract. At a time when unemployment rates were soaring, I had no guarantee of contract extension beyond those initial six months. What motivated me to take such a risk? During a final one-on-one interview with CEO KELVIN SIKWIBELE, he painted a compelling vision of IHM 's future that I couldn't resist. Fast forward to today - it's been three years at IHM , and I've had the privilege of being part of the organization's transformational journey into a leading health informatics organization in the region. During this time, IHM has grown in budget, scope of work, and staff count. I've also been promoted to Director of People and Operations, providing strategic direction to internal support services. On this Sunday reflection, I'd like to share a few lessons I've learned over the past three years at IHM : 1. Seek opportunities, not just security. Growth often happens outside your comfort zone. By taking on the six-month contract, I prioritized opportunities for growth over job security. This decision opened doors that staying in my previous role might not have. 2. Be drawn to the vision, not just the status. When I joined IHM, they were a small organization with big aspirations. I joined for their future potential, not just their present state. 3. Understand the core of your organization's business. Throughout my career in various sectors, I've made it a priority to understand why the organizations I work for exist. This understanding has allowed me to add significant value. 4. Value visionary leadership. Under the guidance of KELVIN SIKWIBELE, I've been fortunate to have a leader who supports, mentors, and coaches me to reach my full potential. 5. Practice gratitude. I've learned to appreciate the opportunities that come my way and acknowledge that there are many talented individuals out there. Gratitude has been a key aspect of my personal and professional growth. As you reflect on this, I challenge you to consider the risky decisions you've made to reach your goals. Can you believe it ? We are already halfway through 2024! As we gear up for the next six months, let's take a moment to celebrate, strategize and set our sights on what's next. Wow, what a ride it's been so far! I'm incredibly grateful to God for the countless blessings. One of the biggest highlights has been starting my job in the telecom industry, exploring a completely new field. Each baby step has been a testament to learning and growth. Whether it was mastering new skills, tackling challenging projects or adapting to a new role, it’s been an exciting journey worth celebrating. Now, it’s time for a mid-year tune up. Are our goals still aligned with our vision? Do we need to pivot or double down? I’m committed to refining my career goals, investing in continuous education, and advancing my skills. It’s about reassessing our strategies to ensure we’re on the right path and working smarter, not just harder. The second half of the year is a blank canvas, ready for new creations. Let’s remember that we’re in this together. By leveraging our networks, sharing insights, and supporting each other, we can achieve remarkable things. Collaboration and learning from one another will spark innovative ideas and propel us forward. Together, we can build strong relationships that will enhance our collective growth and success. To launch the new year, I spent time reflecting on what drives me professionally and personally. Looking back, the times that jump out to me are almost always in alignment with solving meaningful problems (at home or work), creating positive momentum, and then working with discipline to sustain that long-term. I noticed that doing this isn’t an independent endeavor, but a collaboration with others to understand what matters and then drive to accomplish the work together. After 24 years, this continues to be the culture of medaptus, however, in 2024 we will be proactive in engaging our partners and customers to make this happen. It’s not a new start or dramatic pivot for us, but it will be a focused and driven approach from all areas of the organization. Increasing our customer-centricity will be the driving force for us in 2024, where we will continue to tackle meaningful problems, create positive momentum, and then sustain this beyond 2024.
