The importance of accurate data: “More public transport, less Lamborghinis”. This quote by Spain's president Pedro Sánchez went completely viral earlier this week, bringing the attention of all big media outlets in Spain to the Lamborghini market and the impact of these in the Spanish economy. In light of this comment, at HoyMatriculado we have observed the easiness with which the Spanish press is able to share totally inaccurate data in contrast to our up-to-date database. Most outlets even took the time to do an in-depth analysis of the market, publishing numbers much lower than the actual ones... which also goes against their main point: the fact that Lamborghinis generate a lot of revenue in tax for the government (over 50 million euro in the last 3 years as correctly highlighted by CarDesign.es). It is really concerning how this passes unnoticed across the automotive press in Spain. There is also potential for these trucks to be approved for public road usage in the future. Another highlight is a trailer that doubles its loading capacity by lowering the floor and creating a double-decker cargo area. Additionally, a lightweight cargo area allows a new compact van, which can carry 50 kilograms more than before, to be driven with a standard driver’s license. The line-up of the world's best selling cars is very interesting when compared to the South African list, firstly, 4 of these vehicles are not available in SA, 2 models on here are grossly under performing in our market. Ultimately, only two vehicles on here features on the SA list of top selling vehicles. I wonder if the trends differ due to the SA economy being so far behind the majority of the world, or if our import taxes on vehicles are just making most cars unaffordable to the general consumer. Lastly, I find it hard to believe that this top 10 list is actually correct, not a single Chinese brand features on here, top selling vehicles in the largest vehicle market would definitely make it to the list.

While Nokian Tyres opened a new test centre in Spain a good three years ago and presented the so-called ‘Hakka Ring’ to a wider public for the first time this spring, the Finnish tyre manufacturer still has a lot going on. This primarily refers to the recent official opening of its new tyre plant in Oradea, less than a year and a half after the foundation stone was laid and less than two years after the decision was made to locate the plant in Romania, less than 20 kilometres from the Hungarian border. The speed is not really surprising, as the company lacks the necessary production capacity following its withdrawal from Russia and the sale of its tyre plant there to Tatneft, where around 80 percent of its car/SUV tyres had been manufactured until then. This is despite the fact that, as a countermeasure, the tyre manufacturer has increased production at its two other sites in Nokia (Finland) and Dayton (USA) as far as possible and has also entered into off-take agreements with Qingdao Sentury Tire, Sailun Jinyu Group Co. Ltd. and Kumho Tire Tianjin Co. Ltd. from China, among others. However, the latter are not to be shelved once the plant in Oradea has been fully ramped up. https://lnkd.in/exr5XPQF

The 2024 China Automobile Overseas (Chile) Tour opened on the 1st at the Lesco Convention Center in Santiago, the capital of Chile. Fuel vehicles, electric vehicles, electric buses, heavy-duty trucks and other products from 15 Chinese brands including BYD, Changan Automobile and Chery were unveiled at the exhibition. Jorge Daza, deputy minister in charge of transportation at the Chilean Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, said at the opening ceremony that Chinese automobiles have made a huge contribution to the development of green transportation in Chile. In 2017, Chile introduced the first two Chinese-made electric buses. Today, more than 2,000 Chinese electric buses are driving on the streets of Santiago, helping the country improve people's quality of life and achieve its goal of carbon neutrality. According to data from Chile's National Automobile Association, 35.4% of light and medium-sized cars sold in the country in 2023 will be made in China. There are 33 Chinese car brands sold in Chile.
