Designers / Hiring Managers: How is an associates in design viewed within the product design world? Is that of value? Would love thoughts especially from hiring managers and design teams on associates versus bachelors in design. Any examples of when an associates degree would be enough for a position? What would the pay difference between two candidates with similar experience but one with an associates and one with a bachelors?

Suggestion take/edit/toss. When responding to job postings, like Ed's below, unless you have a relationship with the author, it is not recommended to ask them to look at your LI profile and get in touch. Instead, try one of the following responses, or use the basic formula below. "Thanks for sharing this opportunity, Ed, looks interesting! I just applied. Look forward to hearing from Marriott." OR "Thanks for sharing this opportunity, Ed, looks interesting! I just applied. I just helped launched two hospitality brands that increased reservations by 40%. I hope to talk with you or the recruiter." OR "Thanks for sharing this opportunity, Ed, looks interesting! I just applied. I'd be thrilled to work at <company>, and have examples of how I can help. I'm happy to chat, or connect with the recruiter managing the req." OR Ed, the position looks great, I just applied. Sending you a DM* to share some of my work. Thanks for sharing this! *In the DM ask if there's anyone in Recruiting, or if they'd like to talk directly with you. Formula - Thank them for sharing the job. - Advise them that you applied to the job. - Share a recent "result," or offer to share examples of your work that ties to the job. - Ask about the communication process and how it's best to proceed. Or, you can leave this out, ask in a DM, follow up with the company, directly. Good luck! P.S. Please share what's worked for you. You could help other job seekers. #jobseeker #productdesign

The other day, I was chatting about job openings with my friends. Since I'm a designer, they asked for my help with the descriptions for these positions. 😊 It was surprising to see how little people know about different designer roles. So, I thought it'd be cool to break them down one by one. ✍ This way, next time you're looking for someone, you'll know exactly who is the right fit! #product #productdesign

🛋️ Design wisdom: Established designers know that reputation is built over years of collaboration with trusted product representatives. This partnership not only saves time in the sourcing process but also ensures that specialists are involved in every aspect of the work. 🤝💼 Did you know that hiring a designer also means that a full team of specialists come with them? #DesignPartnerships #TrustedReputation #CollaborationSuccess @abbrio_kitchen_bath

I'm really sorry for all the junior designers who have to deal with these job openings while just starting their career. Some excerpts from the list of expectations : - Minimum 2 years of experience in high viability consumer apps - Do everything design-related: from appstore screenshots to conducting research, designing user flows etc - Autonomous management of your design process from idea to execution - Handling multiple complex projects at the same time at the fast pace - Portfolio exhibiting great visual design execution - Stakeholders management/presentation skills Am I missing something or seems like these days everyone wants a senior person for a price of a part-time student? I know designers with 15 years of experience who's bad in half of those things and still considered great team members and talented pros.
⚠️ We're on the lookout for a junior designer to join our product team ⚠️ This is an ideal role for someone with a few years of B2C/social product design experience. Our small but highly experienced product team offers a unique opportunity to work on features that reach millions of people every day, while being part of an awesome team to learn from. Check out the link for more details. ⚠️ #designjobs #productdesign #juniorposition

Thinking about hiring a #designer for your product team? Think again... about what it is that you want in a designer. My smart colleague Toni Astala identified the differences between "traditional" designers and growth designers. Neither is better than the other – the starting point, goals, and ways to get there are just different. If you are hiring a designer for a more commercial context, remember to ask about the skills and knowledge regarding the right column!

Empathy and critical thinking are the designer's superpowers. Remain human and professional. I respect the opinion in the post below.
Here are a couple of thoughts about being a Senior IC Designer: — Growing a Design career doesn't necessarily mean becoming a Manager/Lead and following its ladder. We can still be hands-on senior ICs and keep progressing. Some companies allow and sponsor that, as Senior hands-on Designers are becoming rare creatures. There's also a massive opportunity here. — A Senior IC Designer is also a Design Leader. Leadership comes from inspiring, building the vision for the work, being the first in class, keeping updated on the latest happenings in the industry, studying Design, Art, Photography, Cinema, and all sorts of inspiration. A Senior IC pushes the team forward by influencing and working alongside other Designers to elevate the work. — Some Designers have the urge to grow fast, pushing them to the Manager/Lead ladder, as most companies mostly value progression that way. We should ask ourselves if that's our case and pivot, if possible. — Some Designers are in the industry because of the hype and because it pays well. They might be good at talking, but it's unsustainable if they don't have the craft and soft design skills. I suggest moving away from these profiles as soon as possible or knowing how to avoid and deal with them. — Companies that only value progression by promoting ICs to Managers/Leads should revisit their career paths, as this is highly outdated, counter-productive, and not inclusive. — A Designer might be a good people Manager and want to focus on that. But before doing that, they should nerd the design duty first, and it takes years, probably at least a decade. Otherwise, it creates an uncomfortable situation of being a Manager/Lead who does not have enough design knowledge to help their team progress. And the design industry is packed with this profile. — We should be empaths and partners with other designers. It doesn't matter their level or background. We're all colleagues. Let's lock our egos, levels, and entitlement in a safe, work, and be nice to people. #design #graphicdesign #visualdesign #productdesign #ux #uxdesign #brandingdesign #branddesign #technology #fintech
