During this spring's bird migration, I encountered a Tennessee Warbler in a way that I hope never to again. This tiny, vibrant bird had tragically collided with a glass window in downtown Toronto. I've long been aware of the issue of bird collisions, but it is only recently that I have become fully aware of the the gravity of the problem. The latest research by Daniel Klem, the leading authority on bird mortality due to glass collisions, suggests that up to 3.46 billion birds die after collisions with glass windows each year in the US alone - https://lnkd.in/dzUT6pbD One effective way to mitigate this issue is by using Feather Friendly® Bird Collision Deterrent Markers. These markers, when strategically placed on windows, help birds recognize the glass as a barrier, reducing collisions significantly. The Tennessee Warbler eventually flew away, but I am not sure that it was OK afterwards. Birds that seem to have recovered and fly away often end up with debilitating internal injuries and may not survive long. As we continue to urbanize, it's crucial to consider the impact of our built environment on wildlife. It is time we took steps to make our cities safer for our precious avian friends, one building at a time. #birdsafe #conservation #birdcollisions #tennesseewarbler #featherfriendly

Bird Strikes: Why They Happen and How to Protect Our Feathered Friends? Have you ever wondered why birds seem to collide with windows? 🐦 In this video, we delve into the reasons behind bird strikes and explore ways we can help prevent them to protect our avian friends. Bird strikes occur for various reasons, including confusion caused by reflections, mistaken perception of open space, or attempts to defend territory. These collisions can be harmful to birds, often resulting in injury or even death. To protect birds from window strikes, consider applying bird deterrents such as decals, window films, or external screens to make windows more visible to birds. Additionally, placing feeders and plants away from windows can reduce the likelihood of collisions. By raising awareness and implementing simple measures, we can create safer environments for birds and promote harmonious coexistence with nature. Watch the video to learn more about bird strikes and how you can make a difference! 🌿✨ Visit website: www.mesinurs.com Remember, every action counts in safeguarding our feathered friends! 🕊️ #BirdConservation #ProtectWildlife #NatureProtection #bridal #BirdConservation #ProtectOurFeatheredFriends #WildlifeProtection #NatureConservation #BirdSafety #WindowStrikes #BirdFriendly #ProtectWildlife #ConservationAwareness #NatureAwareness #protectourwildlife #goldfinch

Bird Migration: OSP Challenges In Fall Season As the crisp autumn breeze sweeps through the air, millions of birds embark on an incredible journey known as fall migration. This seasonal phenomenon sees birds traveling vast distances to find warmer climates, better food sources, or suitable breeding grounds. While this natural spectacle is awe-inspiring, it also brings forth challenges for outside plant (OSP) infrastructure. In this blog, we'll explore the unique challenges posed by bird migration during the fall season and discuss strategies to protect OSP infrastructure from potential disruptions caused by our feathered friends. https://lnkd.in/eZ8Jhh-r #BirdMigration #OSP #OSPChallenges #Fall #Migration #Infrastructure #OutsidePlantDamage #ThirdPartyDamage #Season #PhoenixLossControl

Happy National Bird Day!🐦 Did you know #GreenGlobes certification awards credit for bird collision mitigation and strategies for protecting bird habitats? Let's prevent bird strikes in the built environment together: 1. Minimize reflective surfaces by using bird-friendly films or frosted glass, as reflective surfaces can confuse birds. 2. Install netting or screens to create a barrier between birds and potentially hazardous surfaces. 3. Implement a "lights-out policy" during the months when migrating birds are flying overhead. This can help to prevent birds from becoming disoriented by excessive artificial lights. 4. Increase rooftop vegetation with indigenous plant species to provide food and habitat for migratory birds.
