Today, we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1974, a landmark legislation enacted on December 16th, 1974, during the Clinton administration. This Act granted the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to set essential standards for water quality, ensuring the well-being and safety of the public. At Haws®, our core mission centers on enhancing the health and safety of our global community by ensuring access to clean drinking water through every bottle filler and drinking fountain we provide. We applaud the impactful measures implemented by congress that have forever elevated the quality of drinking water. Understanding the significance of this Act is paramount in grasping its profound impact on the American populace. Clean drinking water plays a vital role in promoting our health and prosperity. The Federal Safe Drinking Water Act is only 50 years old and, in 2015, almost 77 million Americans lived in regions whose water systems did not meet the safety standards of the Safe Drinking Water Act. In addition, more than 2 million Americans did not have running water, and many more rely on wells or small systems not covered by the Safe Water Drinking Act.
