By monitoring TOC/TOD in wastewater, chemical manufacturers can ensure that their wastewater treatment processes effectively remove pollutants and minimize their environmental impact. Watching TOC/TOD can help identify areas where process improvements may be needed to reduce the pollutant load in the wastewater. The EPA’s proposed PFAS effluent limits have been withdrawn, leaving questions about what comes next for wastewater treatment. For operators, PFAS remains a challenge. Removing these chemicals isn’t easy or cheap, and without clear federal standards, utilities are left to navigate it on their own. Regardless of regulations, the industry will need to find ways to manage PFAS effectively. Curious to hear how others are approaching this issue. https://lnkd.in/eFn9pyQ9

Water is a precious, finite resource that is used in many industrial processes. By applying better treatment technologies and water quality monitoring, plants can improve decision making related to this resource. Today, municipalities and industries face unpredictable source water quality due to climate impacts. To navigate these challenges, a "one-water" approach using data-driven treatment solutions is key for managing water risks, enabling compliance, and achieving sustainability goals. We're taking strides to help ensure clean and safe water across the United States. 💧 For the first time, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is putting strict limits on six of the hazardous “forever chemicals” known as #PFAS. Levels of PFOA and PFOS, used in nonstick and stain-resistant products, must stay below 4 parts per trillion in drinking water. Three more PFAS chemicals will be restricted to 10 parts per trillion. For over 15 years, our team of experienced water treatment professionals have helped utilities to limit PFAS in water. Find out more about our work with New Jersey American Water and other major municipalities to meet their PFAS challenges. 👉 https://mottm.ac/4cPUSZ1 #WaterEngineers #CleanWater

OIRA published the unified agenda for regulatory actions this past week. My takeaway from a PFAS perspective is that the Agency continues to have a regulatory agenda misaligned with their talking points (Research, Restrict, Remediate). As a reminder - water systems will need to install treatment for PFAS at ppt levels by no later than April 2029. -CWA effluent discharge limits for manufacturers/formulators: ---Proposed rulemaking timeline delayed back 5 months. ***No final rule timeline*** -CWA effluent discharge limits for metal finishers: ---Rulemaking timeline delayed 17 months. ***No final rule timeline*** -RCRA final rule for listing PFAS as hazardous constituents: ---Final rulemaking scheduled for July 2025. ***No subsequent rulemaking for hazardous wastes scheduled*** #HoldPollutersAccountable #DrinkingWater #Water #Wastewater #PFAS #USEPA
