Reading material for our Sunday morning. So grateful I finally got my hands on 🧠 Dr. Alex Melkumian PsyD, LMFT 💵 book on Financial Psychology. (available on Amazon now for my Canadian friends:https://lnkd.in/gY7cbK69) This field is evolving and every FTA member is doing their best to raise awareness on the intersections between financial wellness and mental health. The demand for this holistic approach to financial health is increasing the more we're aware of the bidirectional relationship we have between our financial behavior and nervous system as well as financial behaviors and mental health. 🧠 Dr. Alex Melkumian PsyD, LMFT 💵 , can't wait to dive into your wisdom. I'm already hooked reading the table of contents.

🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I'm thrilled to share an insightful article shedding light on the fascinating intersection of age, appearance, and health. The study, recently published in Psychology and Aging, which I co-authored with my esteemed mentor, Julie Ober Allen, PhD, MPH, explores how our perceptions of aging impact our overall well-being. The research, based on a nationally representative sample, highlights that 59% of adults aged 50 to 80 believe they appear younger than their actual age, linking this perception to more positive experiences and a stronger sense of purpose. However, it also uncovers the harsh reality of ageism, revealing the detrimental effects of stereotypes and discrimination on mental and physical health. As the second author of the study, I'm honored to have contributed to this research and the ongoing exploration of positive experiences of aging, mental health, and appearance, following the completion of my thesis. Dr. Allen's commitment to inclusive research has profoundly influenced my journey! I invite you to read the full article to gain valuable insights into this important topic. Let's challenge societal norms and embrace healthy behaviors that promote overall well-being. Hats off to Dr. Allen and our team for their groundbreaking work! 🎩✨ #AgeAndHealth #PositiveAging #Research #PsychologyAndAging Article: https://lnkd.in/gTM8AHAt

I highly recommend this important new book by Conor Heaney - a must read for anyone interested in technical, social, and cognitive ecologies, rhythmanalysis, temporality, and critiques of contemporary capitalism
My new book "Contemporary Capitalism and Mental Health: Rhythms of Everyday Life", with Edinburgh University Press, is out now! In lieu of re-describing the book (which I did before when posting about the opening of pre-orders), here instead is a talk and Q&A on it. In May 2024, at the University of Kent, Canterbury, Peter Marshall organised the 2nd Annual Workshops in Political Theory. At the end of this day there was a double-book launch, in which I tried to contextualise this new book alongside my first, "Rhythm: New Trajectories in Law" (Routledge, 2023), as part of an ongoing set of contributions to the field of rhythmanalysis. Watch below!

I’ve published a novel, The Source of a River, that is now available for order in paperback through bookstores and in both paperback and eBook formats through Amazon https://lnkd.in/gQEtkCaX Here's a one-line description: “Source of a River is an epic, moving tale of grit and love, of weathering the storms of trauma and loss while searching for that special connection that makes us feel truly alive." Although a work of fiction, Source of a River, deals in literary form with similar themes that I have been interested in throughout my life and work as a psychologist, including: · How can we live well and find meaning in life in the midst of difficulties? · How do we cope with loss and trauma? · The difficulties—and strengths—that people living with mental health disorders (and their families) face · The challenges and joys that come with developing and sustaining deep connections with others · The search for spirituality Though some of the content is heavy and of a mature audience nature, I think it is ultimately a hopeful portrayal of how people can face trauma and loss and still find deeper connections, love, meaning, and vitality in life, despite hardships. Thanks for considering!
