Did you know that mitochondria, often called the powerhouse of the cell, could be a key player in kidney disease? Damage to the kidneys, from various sources, often leads down a common path: mitochondrial dysfunction. As we age, our bodies become less efficient at repairing these cellular powerhouses, a process known as mitophagy. This decline can slow down recovery from kidney injuries, potentially leading to chronic kidney disease or even failure. But there's hope on the horizon. At Vincere Biosciences, we're developing molecules aimed at halting this progression by enhancing mitophagy, providing a new avenue for treatment. Curious to learn more? The article charts our excellent progress to restore functional mitochondria in various organs by inducing mitophagy. Our lead candidate VNA-318 will enter the clinic this summer in Europe with the first CNS indication being mild cognitive impairment. In addition, we have a pipeline of compounds that all hit the same molecular target with tailored chemical properties to target different tissues for different indications: VNA-052 is targeted to muscle, VNA-438 to the liver, and VNA-710 to the lung.
