A new analysis of an ancient fish rules out some prominent ideas about its identity and offers a new name, noting similarities to modern fishes’ larvae — but gives no certain answers about its place on the tree of life. The two known fossil specimens of 'P. volans' (one shown) measure just 3.3 and 5.6 centimeters long. But both lack a tail end, which could contain crucial clues about where the animal fits on the evolutionary tree of life. https://lnkd.in/dZWBMZ4y

Rewriting history to suit modernist notions of progress is nothing new.  The Great Flood, as described in The Book of Genesis (Noah’s Ark), Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Plato’s Timaeus and the Epic of Gilgamesh, amongst other ancient sources, was long accepted as a historical event only to be dismissed in the Twentieth Century as the fantasy of supposedly ignorant people of the past.  But maybe all those ancient sources are more accurate than they are given credit for: https://lnkd.in/e7CsNEdJ
