The accuracy of batching is pivotal as it affects the quality, strength, and durability of the concrete. In mass batching, each component of the concrete mix is weighed, ensuring precision and consistency, ideal for large-scale and high-strength applications (#ConstructionIndustry, #BuildingMaterials). On the other hand, volume batching, while more common in smaller or less critical projects, involves measuring the ingredients by volume, which might be slightly less accurate but more expedient in certain scenarios (#ProjectManagement, #CivilWorks). Are admixtures ready for Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3)? Our researchers recently teamed up with Heidelberg Materials to investigate a large array of calcined clays in different LC3 systems, ranging from 65% to 35% of clinker content. We identified the importance of the relationship between the specific surface area of calcined clays and the admixture dosage, and uncovered a bit more in the process. These findings are key to understand and design low carbon cement systems based on calcined clays. Our new admixture range for low clinker concrete, MasterCO2re, showed remarkable slump retention in all systems. Buying a concrete grinder can be a tricky business. Where is it made? Who services it? Will the company be around to handle warranty issues? Does the company stock spare parts? What range of diamond shoes are available? And most importantly, how productive is it? The last question is a minefield of misinformation. Just as some vacuum manufacturers inflate performance numbers by removing filters and measuring without the hose attached, many concrete grinder manufacturers provide production numbers that are irrelevant to real-world applications.
