Alaska is paving the way for renewable energy with $125 million allocated for solar projects! The funding supports low-income communities and tribes, aiming to reduce reliance on diesel power and promote sustainability. Organizations like the Alaska Energy Authority and Tanana Chiefs Conference will benefit, bringing cleaner energy solutions to rural Alaska. Legislation like Senate Bill 152 is also in the works to incentivize renewable projects. South Gippsland Shire Council has unanimously adopted the South Gippsland and Latrobe City Renewable Energy Impact and Readiness Study 🙌   Gippsland is one of six Renewable Energy Zones in Victoria, and is the focus of a series of major renewable energy development proposals. This includes nationally significant offshore wind projects off the southern coast of Gippsland; an area declared as the first zone for offshore wind generation in Australia.   South Gippsland Shire Council, Latrobe City Council and Regional Development Australia Gippsland recognised the need to understand, and strategically plan for long term renewable energy investment in Gippsland to optimise benefits that flow to the local economy and community, and mitigate any potential issues that may arise from the delivery of projects.   The Study seeks to identify, understand and plan for issues and spatial implications for urban land supply and supply chain requirements across business, labour and housing. Sustainable Wales – the future is here. Voicing Sustainable Wales support and scaling up climate action together.   PARC SOLAR CAENEWYDD, Gowerton, Swansea   To encourage the introduction of renewable energy, recognising the urgency in society to decarbonise, Sustainable Wales (SW) is posting a brief outline of its support for Parc Solar Caenewydd, to interested parties. Our aim is to encourage you to join SW in this initiative and register your support for this renewable energy scheme. The application is ‘live’ now https://lnkd.in/eQ2qhjiE   This renewable solar scheme, to power 11,500 homes in S Wales, located near Gowerton, west of Swansea, is within its statutory consultation phase for the Welsh Government Planning Department. (Until 25th April). It has no public funding.   Sustainable Wales is supporting this project. From our point of view, if renewable energy applications respond to local issues of biodiversity, landscape and the (legally required) 10% of shared ownership for the local community and its economy, we believe it is important that they are welcomed and encouraged.   No planning application is ever perfect, but if on balance this project reduces climate emissions, increases biodiversity, responds to energy security, and helps the local economy, it should be supported.

New South Wales has reached two remarkable renewable energy milestones that signal the growing contribution of solar power to the state’s energy mix. The first occurred in the early morning, at 7.55am (AEST), when the utility scale solar share topped 40 per cent for the first time, reaching 40.5 per cent of generation, surpassing the previous record of 39.9 per cent set in December. The Australian Government has approved plans for SunCable’s Australia-Asia Power Link solar farm project in the Northern Territory. The Australia-Asia Power Link solar project was assessed and approved by the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment and Water under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC). “This massive project is a generation-defining piece of infrastructure,” said Tanya Plibersek MP, Minister for the Environment and Water. “It will be the largest solar precinct in the world – and heralds Australia as the world leader in green energy." The Australia-Asia Power Link project is being set up to be the largest solar farm in Australia and is expected to generate up to 6 GW of renewable energy, including 4 GW to be used in Darwin and for potential export to Singapore. “SunCable is pleased to receive Commonwealth Government approval under the EPBC Act, following four years of extensive assessment and public consultation with stakeholders around Australia,” said SunCable Australia’s Managing Director, Cameron Garnsworthy. “SunCable will now focus its efforts on the next stage of planning to advance the project towards a Final Investment Decision targeted by 2027.” The latest approval follows last month’s environmental approval granted by the Northern Territory Government and NT Environment Protection Authority for the ambitious solar project. SunCable estimates the project will deliver more than A$20 billion ($13.4 billion) in economic value to the Northern Territory and support an average of 6,800 direct and indirect jobs for each year of the construction phase, with a peak workforce of 14,300. The approval comes with strict conditions to protect nature including requirements to completely avoid important species like the Greater Bilby and critical habitat. The 12,000 hectare solar farm project is located on a pastoral station between Elliot and Tennant Creek. The approval also includes an 800km transmission line to Darwin and an underwater cable to the end of Australian waters. #cleanenergy
