Modern homes are built so that they don’t waste energy. Better insulation, draught-proofing on doors and sealed window units minimise draughts and stop heat escaping from your home. They also reduce water vapour escaping, which can increase the risk of condensation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀. The Impact of VOCs on Indoor Public Health and Mitigation Strategies #09 One way to decrease the time one is exposed to relevant pollutants is to adopt more effective intervention measures. Some strategies to reduce people’s exposure to VOCs have already been reported. Scholars concluded that one way to reduce the level of VOCs in new buildings under construction is to use concrete instead of wood to limit the infiltration of emissions from the source indoors. It was also reported that choosing long-term passive culture compared to active short-term culture is an effective intervention in buildings to reduce the formation of microorganisms due to the presence of VOCs in indoor air during the culturing period. In addition to these measures, people can install mechanical air supply ventilation in each room and improve the performance of mechanical air supply to shorten the time that airborne contaminants are inhaled.

How does a ventilation system with heat recovery work in winter? Very nicely, thank you…fresh healthy indoor air, filters that remove pollutants and particulates and the ability to hang-on to the heat you already have in your house, just like the modeling (the building science) intended. Outside air temperature: -2.5C Add heat recovery to deliver incoming fresh air at: 19C Note: the icon in the corner - temperature profile set to ‘warm’, ie winter setting. Alternatives: Natural ventilation (opening windows in winter) - no precise control on the amount of airflow achieved, no filtering of your neighbours wood burner smoke and you let the heat out…not ideal. Continuous positive pressure ventilation - kind of a halfway house between MVHR and opening windows in winter…mmm…not ideal.

🌿 Exploring the Future of Refrigeration with Natural Refrigerants 🌿 I recently had the pleasure of reading an insightful book on natural refrigerants, and I must say, it was both enlightening and inspiring! As a refrigeration engineer specializing in ammonia refrigeration, I found the discussions around sustainable alternatives particularly relevant to my work. The book delves into various natural refrigerants, their applications, and the benefits they bring to the industry. It highlights how embracing these eco-friendly options can significantly reduce our environmental footprint while maintaining efficiency and performance. I was particularly struck by the real-world case studies that showcased successful implementations of natural refrigerants in different settings. These examples not only illustrate the feasibility of these solutions but also inspire us to think creatively about how we can innovate in our own practices. I encourage my fellow professionals to explore the potential of natural refrigerants and consider how we can collectively contribute to a more sustainable future. Together, we can pave the way for innovative practices that not only enhance our work but also protect our planet. 🌍✨ PS : in the background my apple tree stands tall 🌳 😄 Michael Kauffeld thank you for all of your efforts. #natref #ammoniarefrigeration #greensolution
