🌟 Join the Asian Pacific Fund’s AANHPI Summit on June 6th at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center as we bring together nonprofits, corporations, media, government, and philanthropy for “real talk” about the #MentalHealth challenges faced by the #AANHPI community, community-driven solutions, and opportunities for collective action. 🌟 #DidYouKnow AANHPI adults are the racial group least likely to seek mental health services—3 times less likely than their white counterparts? Because of stigma, cultural barriers, and lack of access to culturally appropriate services, mental health and well-being look and feel different in our communities. Still, AANHPIs are often excluded from studies, narratives, and decision-making tables, and this Summit is an intervention grounded in the belief that our communities have the answers to our most daunting problems, including mental health and well-being. We believe we need a renewed focus on prevention and early intervention. One way to do this is by building communities full of support networks and ways to improve daily wellbeing, including through access to things like exercise. Our #ThinkingDifferently manifesto is calling on political parties, policy makers and funders to: 🌳 Increase funding for community assets like parks, sports centres and libraries. 👩⚕️ Grow the children and young people’s mental health workforce and increase the training and support available to workers. 👩👩👦 Increase support for community-based early intervention services like family hubs. 🌈 Fund community-led early interventions for - and delivered with - marginalised groups. 📈 Build resources to study and act on local data about the root causes of mental ill health distinct to each community. 🎊 Well, under Collaborative Approach Consultancy our key focus is to prioritize people over profit and ensure we foster inclusion in all aspects of our work, decisions, programming, and engagements by supporting fellow young leaders, activists, and changemakers from marginalized regions who are doing amazing work but always underfunded and lack visibility 💚 . To actualize this commitment, as a way to commemorate World Mental Health Day, in collaboration with the GforGirls Initiative & network members from the Network of Grassroot Organisations and Movements, today we are hosting a special #mentalhealth experience-sharing session designed for young leaders and #humanrights activists; This event will bring together #genderminorities, #refugees, and #ethnicminorities to share their experiences of how they have been struggling and dealing with mental health, practical steps to care for their mental health, and address secondary #trauma, which often comes from working with vulnerable populations and underfunded. Through authentic open discussions and shared experiences, with G for Girls Initiative (who are also part of the network) we aim to create a supportive space where activists can learn effective self-care strategies, build resilience, and gain insights into maintaining emotional well-being in their vital work especially this time when funding and civic sector is keep shrinking 😭 Check the comment section for the registration link, and come we cry together, learn together, exchange experiences, and support each other. Promise this will be one of the most insightful session. #InclusiveLeadership #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth #ItsMwadena

As #communicators, we sometimes get the chance to tell the stories of real people and amplify the voices of those often unheard—a responsibility we handle with care and never take lightly. Recently, I got the opportunity to interview the inspiring team at neunerhaus in Austria and share their story. Learning about their incredible efforts to support those experiencing homelessness is something that will stay with me for a long time. As their Managing Director said: "...homelessness can affect anyone, and more quickly than you might think. We often hear, 'I never thought it would happen to me.'" Today, on #WorldHomelessDay, it's important to recognise the crucial work of organisations like neunerhaus, who continue to advocate for an end to homelessness. It’s also #WorldMentalHealthDay, reminding us that homelessness impacts not only physical health but mental wellbeing, too. To pull from the post below if we listen to those affected, invest in affordable housing, expand support services, and prioritise mental health, we can reshape the narrative and build a more inclusive Europe. A big thank you to all our contributors—your insights and expertise help us highlight the crucial 'on the ground' work that’s changing lives across Europe Link to the story? In the post below, go check it out! #MentalHealthMatters #Homelessness #BreakTheStigma #Communications #Journalism #Europe #MentalHealth #PublicHealth
"Homelessness can affect anyone, and more quickly than you might think." These are the powerful words of Elisabeth Hammer, Managing Director at neunerhaus , a social organisation that empowers people experiencing homelessness by providing access to essential services such as health and social care, housing, and by breaking down barriers that fuel inequality. Homelessness impacts not only physical health but mental wellbeing, too. By listening to those affected, investing in affordable housing, expanding support services, and prioritising mental health, we can reshape the narrative and create a more inclusive society. In the lead up to World Mental Health Day and World Homeless Day on October 10, we highlight a story from the latest edition of our magazine, discussing how stigma acts as a barrier—not just to employment, but to healthcare, social support, and housing for those experiencing homelessness. It’s time to break these barriers down. EuroHealthNet’s Ruth Thomas speaks with the neunerhaus team on the need for comprehensive, collaborative policies that promote dignity and inclusion. 📰 Full story: https://lnkd.in/evWQEKqK #WorldMentalHealthDay #WorldHomelessDay #Homelessness #MentalHealth #Community #Austria #Europe #PublicPolicy #PublicHealth #Housing #HealthInequalities #EU FEANTSA Mental Health Europe WHO Regional Office for Europe

🌍 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲! Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, we reflect on the profound impact of trauma, particularly through the lens of Hawa’s story. At just six years old, Hawa endured the painful and harmful practice of female genital mutilation (#FGM). Her memories of that day remain vivid, serving as a powerful reminder of the emotional and psychological scars that can last a lifetime. Hawa shares, “𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻.” This haunting recollection illustrates the deep-seated fear, anger, and isolation that many survivors face. As she expresses, “𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲𝗻, 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴,” we are reminded of the urgent need for mental health support for those affected by #FGM. The trauma associated with FGM does not just affect physical health; it significantly impacts mental well-being. It’s crucial that we amplify the voices of survivors like Hawa, advocating for healing and support systems that recognize the complex psychological effects of such violence. As we commemorate this day, let us commit to breaking the silence surrounding FGM and its repercussions on #mentalhealth. Together, we can work towards a future where no girl has to endure such #trauma and where every survivor receives the care and support they deserve. Join us in our mission to #EndFGM and support the mental health of survivors. Together, we can create lasting change. #EndFGM #MentalHealthMatters United Nations United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) UNICEF UN Women End FGM EU Youth Anti-FGM Network Kenya
