Mangrove forests play an important role in coastal environments acting as a natural barrier against rising tides and storm surges, and providing a natural solution to reducing carbon in the atmosphere. Although mangrove forests cover just 0.1% of the planets surface, they store up to 10 times more carbon per hectare than other terrestrial forests. Consider joining us for a new opportunity in the Osa Peninsula planting Mangrove Trees as part of our Blue Carbon Initiative. This project, with a planting season that runs annually from the end of May through the end of October, allows transient yachts and crew to donate and participate toward this work in Costa Rica’s crown jewel of biodiversity. Just 1,800 square kilometers, the Osa Peninsula is home to approximately half of the country’s 500,000 species. To learn more about our Blue Carbon Initiative and how you can help if you are planning to visit Costa Rica, follow the link in our profile. #yachtaidglobal #bluecarbon #bluecaboninitiative #costarica #mangrovetrees #mangroveforest #golfito #osapeninsula #yachtlife #superyachtcrew #crewlife #community #together #friday #family #donate #participate #humanitarian #altruism #coastalcommunities #carbonfootprint #onetreeplanted

CORAL RESTORATION FUNDING OPPORTUNITY: Are you implementing nature-based solutions or community resilience solutions in your work? Coral reef restoration work is a perfect fit for this! The Chubb Charitable Foundation is currently accepting proposals from organizations that are implementing climate resilience solutions that have been tested and found effective in strengthening the resilience of the natural environment and/or vulnerable communities. In particular, the Chubb Charitable Foundation seeks to support time-bound projects with long-term sustainability in one of the following areas: - Nature-based solutions that are focused on land conservation or the protection, restoration, or expansion of systems including coastal wetlands, oyster reefs, mangroves, and/or coral reefs. - Agricultural resilience solutions that are focused on helping smallholder farmers outside of the United States transition to restorative practices and/or be better positioned to absorb and recover from climate-related impacts. - Community resilience solutions that are strengthening the climate resilience of community infrastructure and/or connecting community members to green jobs. How much does the average every day person know about Lions, their population dynamics & otherwise? I think programs like these are important I also think we’d make lots of progress in saving species if, for instance, every time we visited a zoo, Or see a lion roar in a movie, We took time to ponder more deeply What a Lion is, what is does, why it’s important So on and so forth Deeper understandings of wildlife and biology is the only way forward #thinkdeeper #wildlifeconservation #zoology #humanecology
Africa's landscape is undergoing significant change, with its population expected to grow exponentially over the next fifty years 📈. Additionally, #ClimateChange will challenge both people and animals to adapt to new realities. Without proactive planning, human-wildlife conflict will increase, and vital connections with wildlife, including iconic species like #Lions, will be at risk 🦁. AZA's SAFE African Lion program is tackling these challenges head-on. 🏞️ The program aims to create thriving, connected landscapes and foster communities that can coexist with African lions, boosting their numbers in the wild. The focus is on promoting human-lion coexistence, ensuring that both local communities and lion populations can thrive together. AZA-accredited institutions partner with local organizations across #Africa, aligning efforts with governmental, non-governmental, and scientific strategies for lion conservation. 🤝 Through this collaborative approach, the program continues to restore key landscapes while reducing violence against lions and addressing misconceptions about them. The SAFE African Lion program offers #AZA institutions opportunities to support lion conservation through funding, engagement, and coordinated campaigns. Join the mission! 🧡 You can donate to SAFE today and help secure a future where lions and humans thrive side by side: https://bit.ly/4dkLgVO. #WorldLionDay #AfricanLions #SAFE #Lion #AfricanWildlife #Wildlife #Conservation

Ring in the new year by helping to protect the nature that needs it most, whether through a donation, like, or share! 💚 While protected on paper, many national parks and UNESCO World Heritage sites lack the resources and funding to ensure the region is monitored for illegal activities. So, while these vast natural areas have become the last habitat for wildlife and nature, they are also at a higher risk of destruction. Your support (in any form) helps us fight to preserve these ecosystems: https://lnkd.in/g-_QTj_7

As the days grow colder and the season comes to a close, we’re shifting our focus toward internal improvements, innovation, building new partnerships, collaborations, and - most importantly - preparing for an exciting 2025. Before diving into these next steps, we want to highlight something deeply important to us: our partner organization in the Global South. 🌍 You may already know that for every ice cream sold, we donate 10 cents to the Wildlife Action Group in Malawi. But it’s more than just a donation. We believe that rethinking our structures is essential - not only in terms of sustainability but also in how we approach partnerships, foster equal exchanges, and prioritize inclusion. Together, we’re striving to make a real difference and establish a meaningful connection with the Global South. Now, some context. Life in Malawi is incredibly challenging due to numerous factors: the climate crisis, inflation, ongoing exploitation by the Global North, and local corruption. The average daily wage is just 2 CHF (World Bank, 2023). By forwarding part of our proceeds, we hope to open up new possibilities for the Wildlife Action Group and the local communities they support. Check out these first glimpses of an NGO that’s making an impact by combining wildlife conservation with co-existence alongside the local population. 🐾🌱 📸: @wagmalawi #grassrootmovement #NGO #partnership#collabs #collectivesolution

(sharing from Cheetah Conservation Fund) Just a little more than a century ago, there were still nearly 100,000 cheetahs in the wild. The cats were found throughout most of Africa and into Asia, through the Arabian Peninsula to the Caspian region, and into India and Pakistan. But, over the last century, cheetahs have disappeared from most of their historical range. Today, the cats are found in only about 9% of their past distributional range - and there are less than 7,500 mature cheetahs remaining in the wild. In Asia, cheetahs disappeared from the wild almost entirely during the first half of the twentieth century. Asiatic cheetahs now persist only in Iran, and there are believed to be less than 40 individuals remaining. In Africa, cheetahs also occupy just a tiny portion of their historic range. Most of the continent’s remaining cheetahs are found in East Africa and within a swath of Southern Africa that extends into six countries – Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, and Zambia. While cheetahs are currently classified as Vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species, the Northeast African cheetah, a subspecies found in the Horn of Africa, was reclassified as Endangered last year. Two cheetah subspecies - the Asiatic cheetah and the Northwest African (or Saharan) cheetah - are both currently listed as Critically Endangered. How can charities ensure that developers are achieving their biodiversity net gain (BNG) requirements? As of today, 12 February, under the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan, the BNG requirement of at least 10% will be mandatory for new major development planning applications under the Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) 1990. It will also become mandatory for small sites from 2 April 2024. These rules are designed to protect wildlife and improve natural habitats by requiring developers to improve the biodiversity rating of a site as part of its development. Find out more in Chris Sharpe’s and Rene Antonio’s article. https://lnkd.in/eWEpdmJJ #25YearEnvironmentPlan #BiodiversityNetGain #StoneKing #ConservationCovernant #Charity #CharityLaw #TCPA

Save The Koala Day is celebrated on the last Friday in September every year and takes place on September 27 this year. It is a part of the Save The Koala Month celebrations organized by the Australian Koala Foundation. The objective of these celebrations is simple — to save the koalas and their natural habitats, and raise awareness to prevent them from going extinct. Koalas are an important part of Australian wildlife. However, today they face the danger of disappearing due to human activities and the climate crisis. You can do your part to prevent the unthinkable from happening by raising funds and donating to organizations that are committed to caring for the koala population. With GSE and the GSatSolar we are definately making an difference. 5 FACTS ABOUT KOALAS THAT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND They aren’t bears Koalas are marsupials, which means that they carry their babies in a pouch. Another year, another WWF Climb for Nature! On April 20th, I will be climbing the CN tower in support of WWF’s 10 year plan to restore and protect Canada’s ecologically rich but degrading ecosystems. If you would like to support this cause without having to climb 1,776 steps on a Saturday morning, feel free to donate to my page! Funds raised from this event go towards three overarching goals: 🌳 Restore at least one million hectares of lost, complex ecosystems that provide essential wildlife habitat and sequester carbon in nature. 🐻 Steward at least 100 million hectares of vital ecosystems for wildlife and communities. 🌤 Reduce carbon emissions by 30 million tonnes by restoring carbon-rich habitats and protecting current carbon stores. To learn more about WWF & their plans to achieve the goals listed above, follow this link: https://lnkd.in/gRtGpDeW If you reside in the GTA and are interested in or curios about the CN Tower climb, don't hesitate to reach out! The hardest part is showing up :)
Will you help me make a difference?
