Marine Lake Events Centre brought to life as Southport primary school children unveil their inspirational drawings! ASM Global - Europe joined forces with Sefton Council and local schools to unveil the hoardings around the MLEC Southport site - the first step towards the creation of the stunning new ASM-operated lakeside entertainment complex. Following a competition process earlier this year, dozens of local primary school children were selected to be part of this first stage of the new destination, creating unique drawings around themes including nature and the environment, and their hopes for the future of Southport, to be displayed on the hoardings surrounding the site. Congratulations kids! Standby for more news on MLEC Southport over the coming months... https://lnkd.in/eHXashxY

Passionate Science Educator | Inspiring Curiosity, Igniting Minds | Nature Enthusiast | Lifelong Learner
🌟 **Must-Attend Conference: Supporting Disadvantaged Students to Thrive** 🌟 Join us at this essential conference featuring keynote speaker Mark Rowland, who will be addressing how we can better support disadvantaged students in the UK. There are significant disparities in academic performance, with socio-economic status still a major factor in student outcomes. While the UK is below the OECD average for such disparities, countries like Norway and Estonia have made more progress towards equity. I would love to be part of the solution! If there are any Medway science teachers interested in attending the conference together (car share!) or simply having a chat about this important topic, please reach out to me. Let’s connect and work towards closing the gap for all students! #EducationEquity #DisadvantagedStudents #EducationForAll #Conference2024 #MarkRowland #OECD #PISA #EdLeadership #EducationalOpportunity #MedwayScienceTeachers #LetsMakeAChange

Amidst the societal shifts of recent decades, one question looms: How can outdoor excursions in school-age educare be perceived through the lens of human practising? Read this new open-access publication 🔓 📕 Outdoor excursions in Swedish school-age educare centres 📕 By Peter Carlman, Maria Hjalmarss & Birgitta Ljung Egeland Societal changes during the last few decades have given rise to the expansion of extended systems in nations across the world. Despite differences regarding age groups and relations to compulsory school, the task of extended education is primarily to provide participants with possibilities to learn general or specific content and foster their’ socioemotional and academic development and learning. In Sweden, the great majority of the younger pupils attend extended education in terms of the school-age educare centres (SAEC), where they meet teaching connected to four different central content defined in the curricula, of which one relates to games, physical activities and outdoor excursions. Based on observations and the philosophy of human practising four themes are discussed: meaningful challenges, content to learn, standards of excellence and time. In honor of Earth Day, we are highlighting an important chapter in the Bloomsbury Handbook of Montessori Education by my colleague Dr. Maria K. McKenna , "Montessori Education: Ecoliteracy, Sustainability, & Peace Education." See the abstract below: Maria Montessori’s vision of peace education includes a deep respect for integral human development where a focus on the whole child in the context of the larger community is the norm. Within Montessori education, children learn each part of the universe, living and non-living, play a role in the cosmic order of the world. Long before climate change became a mainstream concern and imminent threat, Montessori understood that ecoliteracy and a deep reverence for understanding how sustainability, sustainable living, respect for the environment, and a deep understanding of the means of production and exchange were essential to the development of a peaceful world. This chapter explores her philosophy of peace education, its relationship to environmental stewardship, and the implementation of these themes within the Montessori context. This is an area with perhaps the greatest potential for changing health, education, economic, and societal outcomes.
The ECHO for Education Early Childhood Team enjoyed their recent time at the annual NMAEYC conference. During the event the team heard many heartwarming stories about the experience of our community members in joining ECHO sessions. They even had a chance to connect with Secretary Groginsky from NM ECECD for a quick moment! You can learn more about the early childhood team and their programs here: https://bit.ly/4d19yoj @nmececd

How wonderful to see the new Minister getting to know the impact of great #EarlyYears education up close. The first years in life are so crucial in ensuring young people get the right foundations, and where programmes like #NSWBrighterBeginnings can have a huge impact on ensuring people access health and education fundamentals.
Great to welcome Bridget Phillipson to Ark Start Oval for one of her first visits as Secretary of State for Education. Pupils shared their Van Gogh-inspired artwork and staff sat down to discuss the importance of prioritising early years. 📸Yui Mok/PA Media
