On the 12th month of 2024 my reflections have showed me... What a year it truly has beeeeeeen 🎶 🎄 Starting the Community Connections role in August 2023 was TERRIFYING. It was new for me, new for the business, new(ish) for our industry. I was so scared to fail, and I think that was actually a good thing because it lit an entrepreneurial fire within me to better connect with our clients, friends of RGER and HR leaders passionate about their people across the UK, whether they work with us or not. With 4,500+ clients across all sectors globally, we wanted to facilitate bringing people together to share ideas and build useful relationships - HR can be lonely, so it's all about bringing some sparkle! Some milestone moments this year... I've: - filmed nearly 30 episodes of our new vodcast In Conversation with RGER... and counting! - hosted our first Client Advisory Board across five meetings - founded RGER Community Cuppa to connect brilliant people together - founded the RGER Community Jobs Board (search on LinkedIn) - held countless small-scale, curated roundtables - and big ones too! For both the private and public sectors - interviewed the winners at The Appreciation Awards - what a joy! - hosted fireside chats and panels at the Summit, The Appreciation Lab and RGER Live (twice) - delivered the closing keynote at the Inclusive Workplace Conference - a huge moment! But most importantly, I've met some amazing people who truly make my world brighter and better. You all know who you are ❤️ Special mention to my mentor Georgina Kelly who's believed in me so fiercely that it's made me start believing in myself, pushing myself to do new things and made me crack up at least twice a week. Couldn't do it without you G, you legend. Thank you. And thank you to everyone who's been involved in all of the fun stuff above and also the moments in between - every interaction I've had this year has made me smile. Your Voice Counts 💛❤️ Every year, DHL employees worldwide have the opportunity to make their voices heard through the Employee Opinion Survey (EOS). It's a chance to share your thoughts, provide feedback, and help shape the future of our company. From August 28 to September 19, employees will have the opportunity to participate in the EOS. This survey collects feedback on a variety of important topics, from workplace satisfaction to company strategy. Your opinions are crucial in guiding us towards a better future. As a reminder, here's a video we created 3years ago to highlight the importance of the EOS. It was a fun experience to be part of this project and serve as an ambassador for the survey. After a family-filled Christmas break, I now find myself snowed in at my rural home in Tipperary ☃️ We're now 5 days in, after close to 8 inches of snow fell, and last night temperatures plummeted, leaving absolutely gorgeous frost-clad scenes in our garden! With preschool and childcare cancelled all week, the cabin fever has been setting in 🤪🫠, but that hasn't stopped me from starting back into sharing some of my #ThursdayThoughts as I continue to embark on my CIPD journey! Today I have been exploring employee voice🗣️ and how this relates to organisational performance 📈 I came across an old article from 2018, which proved helpful in my assignment, but for LinkedIn feels a bit dated 👴. That being said, this Virgin Media O2 "Voice" Programme is still going strong, and has continued to develop. Virgin Media O2 isn’t just connecting homes — they’re connecting with their employees in ways many organisations can only dream of. 🤝 Their Voice programme, with elected representatives and structured forums, has turned feedback into a competitive advantage. It’s not just lip service — it’s real-time, frontline insight shaping their business. From rethinking bonus schemes to creating inclusive networks like the Belonging Collective, Virgin Media O2 proves that giving employees a platform isn’t just good HR — it’s good business. While there is plenty of evidence (as Virgin Media O2 has demonstrated) suggesting that employee voice can enhance organisational performance, particularly when effectively implemented, some studies highlight limitations and variability in outcomes. It's been such a warm week. Not in terms of our utterly changeable weather here in Blighty, but wow, the people. Monday - meetings with new people and really enjoying our conversations. Tuesday - a wonderful day at a new PR in HR client with warm and smart people. Wednesday - Festival of Work, where it really did feel like a festival - well done CIPD team. The warmth came in so many ways. Lovely catch ups with two of my favourite clients exhibiting there, hugs with several old colleagues, more warmth with a team I'd love to work with and then a hug with a journalist I've spoken to many times, but hadn't met in person. I even hugged, I'm embarrassed to say, a person I really shouldn't have hugged. TBF, it was the end of the day, I was caught off guard heading out the door, but I should have remembered that a good old hand shake would have sufficed 🙄 Thursday - working from the Institute of Directors (IoD) and talking with my wonderful business coach Nick Cramp, lovely catch ups with Dinara Omarova (MCIPR) 📰 Omarova and her well-travelled Eddie 🐾 . Friday - a call with a very insightful subject matter expert to get his views for a paper we're working on. There's a lot of joy in my working world, and I'm incredibly grateful. It's the people of course. Warm, decent, smart, friendly, helpful. There's a type we like working with, and we're deliberate about our choices. + It's also a huge measure of the #HR sector. There's collaboration and respect and awareness of the challenges people and organisations are facing. + There's a continual learning of what's happening now - and why. + We know this sector deeply + We can see those challenges in terms of news and features  - which is how we successfully convert our clients' messages into useful insights for journalists.  +This sector is complex, and PRwashing with vague information won't cut the mustard.
