If you miss this, you will miss out on some important tools for your transition success.
CEO🔸Mentor🔸Career Coach🔸Army Veteran🔸“I am passionate about helping Veterans & their Families unlock new career opportunities.”
Transitioning Service Members in the Fort Campbell area… This isn’t a mandatory SFL TAP course for transtion but it certainly should be. Networking is going to be a critical skill to help get you places in your career and obtain resources you never heard of before. I found out about the role I have now via a killer connection of mine. She not only told me about the opportunity but she also put an internal referral in for me AND helped me learn about WWP’s unique hiring process so I could more efficiently prepare. By the way… thanks again Dallas Nelson, M.S.! My two year anniversary is right around the corner! So anyways… if you’re in the Fort Campbell area and are transitioning soon or know someone who is… send them the schedule so they can get registered for this class.

Have you noticed in technical interviews that people often have a hard time articulating certain aspects of troubleshooting complex systems? How do you manage this during the interview? What advice do you give candidates for preparing for interviews? Here are some suggestions when preparing for a technical interview: 1. Practice thinking aloud. 2. Have a solid understanding of the fundamentals. 3. Stay calm. Don't forget to breathe.
Yesterday, members of Marriott's Nashville Engineering Business Council had the opportunity to give back by conducting mock interviews with students at Early Technical College at TCAT. Understanding the students have entry level work history, their responses to technical questions with relation to their specific trade study were impressive. I was also taken back by the questions asked by two of the four students that I had the privilege to interview. Essentially, they said they know what they are doing, they can show me all the components of systems, can troubleshoot problems, and effectively make repairs, but when interviewing they draw a blank or are unable to articulate the answers. I had a couple thoughts, first the courage it took to ask for help with this and second the self-introspection these young adults have astonished me. My advice was for them to practice, practice, practice...it takes ten times of practice for the one time of delivery. Sports athletes do not go out and compete, they practice and prepare themselves for game day and they are in competition for a career position they are aspiring towards. Thank you, Mrs. Brown, for helping coordinate this event and to John Petry, Randy Brock, Philip Greatrick, Curtis Mitchell, Danny Austin, Aaron Nichols, and Jimmy Thompson for giving back and volunteering to prepare these young men and women for interviews. #Serve360 #Marriott #Skilledtrades

Three things you can do right now for that coworker that was laid off: 1. Let them know you're thinking about them and appreciate all they've done for you and the team. 2. Extend your network to them. If they're applying to ABC Corp and see that you know someone there offer to connect them with that person. 3. Write them a LinkedIn Recommendation. It's a reminder to that person that they made an impact on you, a project, a team, and it helps them standout to recruiters.

WHEN DID YOU KNOW? We were all doing what we do now when we were 10 years old. Kind of… Long before reading resumes, interviewing interns, production prospects, and skilled tradespeople, there was GI Joe. This is what a lobby full of applicants looked like when I was in 4th grade- a red, plastic collector case. Some of the first teams I put together were for backyard rescue missions. Each Joe had a file card with their skill set, personality profile, pay grade, and hobbies. My younger brother and I would read about each action figure and then decide if they were a good fit for the job. A soldier dressed in arctic gear rarely was sent to the desert. However, if they could drive a dune buggy or hack into a Cobra mainframe it was a real plus. Now and then, colleagues and I will chat about when we knew the type of work we wanted to do. Engineers will talk about a remote control car they modified in the 5th grade. I have met a few electricians too, that fixed a toaster during summer break or programmed a garage door opener. It is important that we all look back at when we started down our career path. Reconnecting with what makes our craft satisfying will bring back memories. Many probably started towards the end of elementary school. Be proud of your career and remember where you come from. Job satisfaction is a true blessing. And knowing is half the battle!
