As we celebrate Pride Month, I’ve been reflecting on why diversity and inclusion in the workplace remain such important topics and what they mean to me personally. I believe that one of the strongest biases that we need to overcome is the “like-me” bias, to ensure that we surround ourselves with different perspectives and experiences. Ensuring diversity at the forefront means giving everyone equal opportunity regardless of their gender, background, sexual orientation - which is fair and results in hiring and promoting the very best people. It’s also been proven over and over again (e.g., https://lnkd.in/eECSZDXX) that a diverse team outperforms an homogeneous one, all other things equal. So, promoting diversity means forming a stronger, better performing team…and inclusion? We should start from inclusion. Promoting diversity in a non-inclusive environment is a recipe for higher attrition at best and harassment at worst. That’s why I’m proud that being part of ABB is to be part of an organization committed to supporting LGBTQ+ communities by creating an inclusive environment that brings people together. It’s our duty to foster a sense of belonging so that our colleagues can bring their authentic selves to work every day. There is still work to be done but I remain committed today and every day to ensuring that everyone can #ComeAsYouAre - https://lnkd.in/ekp5nSGH #PrideMonth #Pride2024 #Diversity #Inclusion #LGBTTQ+ #Equality #ABB #ProcessIndusties #PulpandPaper

Ready to Turn Stress into Success? Certified Master Health Coach in Deep Health & Executive Wellness | Founder @ Caton Wellness
Pride Month is a powerful reminder of the courage it takes to be authentically yourself. It’s about standing up and standing out, not just for a moment, but every day. As we celebrate Pride, let's remember that true diversity goes beyond a multicolored logo—it’s about embracing and supporting each other in our unique journeys. In a world that often pushes for conformity, being yourself is an act of bravery. It’s about honoring your true self and encouraging others to do the same. This authenticity is what makes our communities vibrant and strong. Standing for diversity means creating spaces where everyone feels valued and heard. It’s about fostering an environment where differences are celebrated, and where everyone can thrive. This commitment to diversity isn’t just good for individuals; it’s essential for the growth and success of our communities and workplaces. Let’s not just celebrate Pride this month, but every day. Let’s commit to being allies, to listening, learning, and advocating for a world where everyone can be their true selves without fear. Here’s to the courage to stand up, stand out, and truly stand for diversity. Happy Pride Month! 🌈 #Pride #Authenticity #Diversity #Inclusion #Community #CelebratePride

Leaders work with me to build careers they love, do more of what they want and inspire others to do the same | Executive Leadership Coach & Trainer | Specializing in nonprofits and LGBTQ+ people🌈
Oh great, another straight leader asking you to host the pride event because you're the openly gay person on the team. They are all sorts of interested in recruiting you to do this. They say all of the supportive things to you. You want to do this because you care, but it's a huge use of your energy. They also have no vision for what they want this to be. It feels a little like they want to check the box. Your spidey senses are up. Ultimately, you say yes because you do enjoy this type of work. And within three days, no one seems to want to support you. It's not that they want you to fail, but they expect you to do it because you're the gay one. There isn't true buy-in from the top. That's clear. But, you said yes, so you still plan and execute a killer event. And to your credit, the PRIDE ERG loved it. It doesn't have to go like this. Queer employees: You can set boundaries. Sometimes saying no will spark the conversation that can truly support a culture shift. Don't allow yourself to be another box checked. You are more than that. Leaders: If you're not engaged with your DEI work, you're probably causing more harm. This is complex work -- I'm not going to say it's easy. You (and me) will get it wrong. But living in humanity and allowing us all to be a part of this work is where the transformation exists. Need support for your PRIDE Month festivities? I have space for a couple more events this year and I'd love to help. Drop me a DM and we'll go from there! #PRIDE #leadership #DEIB

Corporate Development and HR Graduate and Co-Chair of Diversity, Inclusion, Culture and Ethnicity ERG @PTSB
As todya we celebrate the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, we are reminded of the diversity and unity that defines our world. Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the harbinger of new beginnings, symbolizes the essence of inclusivity and harmony. We are a tapestry of cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds that enrich our collective human experience. Embracing this diversity and recognizing the strength it brings is essential in our global community. Ganesh Chaturthi teaches us that unity is born out of diversity. It's a reminder that when people from different walks of life come together, they create something beautiful and harmonious. In the workplace, diversity fosters innovation and creativity, driving us towards shared goals. This celebration also encourages us to remove the obstacles that hinder our progress toward a more inclusive and equitable world. It's a call to action to break down barriers, challenge biases, and create environments where everyone's voices are heard and valued. As we immerse ourselves in the festivities of Ganesh Chaturthi, let's carry forward its message of diversity, inclusion, and unity. May we continue to celebrate our differences and work together to overcome obstacles, just as Lord Ganesha does. Wishing everyone a joyous and inclusive Ganesh Chaturthi! 🌟🙏 #GaneshChaturthi #DiversityandInclusion #Unity #Inclusivity #Harmony

Pride and… With Midsumma coming to an end and Mardi Gras just beginning (Australia’s two biggest annual Pride festivals) I want to unpack and reflect on the notion of LGBTIQA+ pride. LGBTIQA+ Pride at its heart is the resistance to shame. LGBTIQA+ shame it is not a feeling that comes from within but is imposed on us through laws, polices, medical responses, cultural and religious intuitions, that are both historical and ongoing. Shame pathologies and criminalises our Queer bodies, lives and cultures as the prerogative other’ within binaries of normal/abnormal, sick/well, natural/unnatural and good/evil. When the Gay* liberation movement began in the 1970’s one of the key slogans was “Gay is good” so simple, and equally so deeply radical in a world that reinforces the opposite. Pride for me, is striving for the profound inner feeling of acceptance AND the ongoing resistance to institutional systems of shame. Pride for me is fostered within the collective doing of change making. For me this is playing my role in the collective movement of shifting LGBTIQA+ lives from surviving to thriving. Pride has in many ways become reduced to and commodified into a narrow understanding of marching in a pride parade. Although this is fun and certainly can be an important milestone in an individuals or organisations journey towards acceptance of and supporting people to be LGBTIQA+, pride is and needs to be far deeper than this. Hannah Gadsby’s now famous quote from her show Nanette, cleverly complicates and speaks to this: “... where do the quiet gays... go? Where are the quiet gays supposed to go?... the pressure on my people to express our identity and pride through the metaphor of party is very intense. Don't get me wrong. I love the spectacle. I really do but I've never felt compelled to get amongst it. Do you know? I'm a quiet soul. My favorite sound in the whole world is the sound of a teacup finding its place... on a saucer.” This pride I offer this provocation, let’s make pride deeper. To make this a tangible ask for workplaces, I suggest that if your workplaces is marching at pride, it should be the cherry on top, the celebration after the hard work is done. This hard work should include, but not be limited to ensuring the workplace offers supports: ⁃ gender affirmation leave ⁃ a workplace pride group ⁃ An executive level pride champion/s ⁃ Annual workplace events - I.e IDAHOBIT and/or wear it purple day ⁃ A diversity and inclusion plan that exijictly include LGBTIQA+, not just part of the list of diversity ⁃ An EAP that is culturally safe for LGBTIQA+ staff ⁃ A public apology for past harm to the LGBTIQA+ community (I.e religious based service that has an anti LGBTIQA+ past, medical or psychiatric provider that did institutional harm) *Gay during this time was both the term used for homosexuality and a Umbrella term for the LGBT community. What do you think? How does my provocation and thoughts around Pride sit with you? 📸me at my desk

Embracing Equal Respect: Fostering a Harmonious World In a world that thrives on diversity, let's remember the extraordinary power of equal respect. Each one of us brings a unique perspective, background, and story to the table, enriching our global tapestry. Respecting one another isn't just a gesture – it's a cornerstone of understanding, empathy, and unity. When we choose to treat everyone with equal respect, we're building bridges that transcend boundaries. Let's celebrate our differences while nurturing the values that bind us – kindness, empathy, and compassion. By embracing equal respect, we create a harmonious environment where everyone's voice is valued and appreciated. Today, let's take a moment to reflect on how our words and actions can shape a more inclusive world. Let's champion the idea that respect knows no boundaries, and together, we can make a positive impact that ripples through generations. #EqualRespect #InclusionMatters #UnityInDiversity #RespectEveryVoice
