"People value mental health extremely highly until they have to pay for it." Let's talk about something real: the disconnect between the value we place on mental health and the struggle to afford the care it deserves. It's like having this priceless treasure, but suddenly, it becomes too costly to safeguard. There are a few reasons why people might avoid seeking support due to the costs associated with therapy and counseling: Financial Hurdles: Studies show that the cost is a significant barrier. Many individuals, even when struggling, avoid seeking professional help due to high fees. Insurance Limitations: Insurance coverage for mental health services often falls short, leaving individuals to cover substantial out-of-pocket expenses. Long Waiting Lists: Publicly funded mental health services often have long waiting lists, leaving many without immediate access to affordable care. Stigma vs. Cost: Despite acknowledging the need for help, the combination of societal stigma and the high cost can prevent individuals from seeking the support they desperately require. At #ASMI, we're rewriting this narrative. We believe that accessing #counseling or therapy shouldn't feel like a luxury you can't afford. It's not an indulgence; it's a fundamental right. #mentalwellbeing shouldn't be locked behind a price tag. Our #mission? Making mental health support accessible to everyone. No financial barriers. No hesitations. Just the help you need, when you need it. At ASMI, we see mental health care as essential as breathing, and everyone deserves that breath of fresh air. Let's build a world where seeking help isn't about what's in your wallet but about what's in your heart and mind. #LAUNCHING JAN 2024 #asmi #instantcounselling #onlinecounseling #supportwithin60sec #mentalhealthmatters #traumarecovery

Mental Health America has just published their 2024 report on the State of Mental Health in America. I am incredibly disappointed and angry to see that Texas ranks last (behind every other state and the District of Columbia) for access to care, which includes "how much access to mental health care exists within a state, [including] access to insurance, access to treatment, quality and cost of insurance, access to special education, and mental health workforce availability." We have to do better. Mental health is health. #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthishealth

World Mental Health Day I’ve already stated this week that there is a crisis in the UK around mental health. Mental Health waiting lists within the NHS. How long is a piece of string? INCOME PROTECTION Now, it’s very common if you do have existing mental health issues within the last 5 years that the majority of providers will apply a mental health exclusion. I’m one of them, I have a mental health exclusion on my Income Protection due to suffering from a bereavement of my Dad passing away in 2019. My provider popped a mental health exclusion on my policy. Having an exclusion applied for your Income Protection, should not stop you from investing in protecting your INCOME. You will be covered for other areas such as accidents and sickness. As well as other serious issues like being diagnosed with a critical illness. If you could not do your day job, ‘Own Occupation’ you would be considered for a claim and pay-out. VALUE ADDED SERVICES If you’ve got Income Protection and you are suffering, dig out your policy and check your additional services because you could get the support you need via your insurance provider. Mental Health exclusion, but you could still access support services on mental health. Speak to your existing broker for help. Or, I’ll happy-lily review your policy and help you find out the services your entitled to. Income Protection is more than just financial protection. #WorldMentalHealthDay2024 #incomeprotection #MentalHealthCounselling

The Biden administration just took a massive step in the right direction with new rules that put mental health care on the same playing field as physical health. Finally. For years, insurance companies have treated mental health like the forgotten stepchild of health care—denying coverage or making it ridiculously hard to get. This ruling flips the script, holding insurers accountable and ensuring people get the treatment they need without jumping through hoops. This isn't just another bureaucratic tweak—it’s a wake-up call that mental health is no longer something we can shove aside. Whether it's depression, anxiety, PTSD, or something else, access to care should be a given, not a battle. Is this ruling a magic fix? No. But it forces the system to recognize that mental health matters just as much as physical health. It’s the kind of shift those of us in the field have been fighting for—a world where seeking help isn’t a luxury, it’s a right. This move doesn’t solve everything, but it's definitely a win for those who believe that real, accessible mental health care should be standard, not an afterthought.

Guiding Businesses in Managing the Risk & Cost of Employee Group Benefit Plans | Vice President | Woodruff Sawyer
Under the final rule, mental health and substance use disorder care on private insurance plans should be covered at the same level as physical health benefits. Coverage parity may require adding more mental health professionals to their networks, or reducing red tape for providers to deliver care. #betterbenefitswithaparna #woodruffsawyer #employeebenefits
