I attended my little nieces’ cheer competition and was happy to see the school celebrating Autism Awareness Month. When my niece, who is autistic, went to school, she just wanted to do well and have friends. She wanted to be like any other teenager. It may be the last day of Autism Awareness Month, but autism awareness should be year round. Neurodiverse individuals want the same opportunities and care that everyone wants. How are you supporting neurodiversity in your organization? Does your DEI strategy include neurodiversity? #autismawarnessmonth #autism #neurodiversity

RESEARCH TALK | Rethinking Autism: Exploring the Strengths of Children on the Spectrum by Associate Professor Kate Simpson. When we read autism research, it often focuses on deficits and challenges—how children on the spectrum compare to their neurotypical peers and where they might fall short. But at the Griffith University Autism Centre of Excellence, we want to shift that focus and explore the strengths of autistic children. Instead of asking what they struggle with, we asked: What helps them thrive?
