Nikara Fraser, AU - Vice President of Casualty Underwriting
Sompo
Throughout my professional journey, the fear of failure, not meeting expectations, and being judged or overlooked due to my race and gender have been consistent companions, particularly in my role as Vice President of Casualty Underwriting.
In response to these challenges, I’ve centered my efforts on cultivating self-awareness and resilience. I’ve learned to acknowledge my fears, understand why they exist and reframe them as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles.
Surrounding myself with a supportive network of coaches, mentors, colleagues, and friends who understand my struggles has been crucial. Their guidance has encouraged me to embrace vulnerability and authenticity in my interactions and leadership approach. By being open and transparent about my vulnerabilities and uncertainties, I have deepened connections and fostered an environment where imperfection is not only accepted but celebrated.
Ultimately, I have come to understand that while fear is a natural part of the journey towards success, it does not have the power to define or restrict me. By acknowledging my fears, seeking support from my network, and remaining true to myself, I’ve been able to navigate challenges with courage and resilience.
